Auke Recreation Area
β OpenLocated in Juneau, Alaska, the Auke Recreation Area is a popular park and tourist attraction on the northern shoreline of Auke Bay. Once a village site for the Auk Tlingit Natives, visitors can now enjoy stunning views of the bay and possibly catch a glimpse of porpoises breaking the surface of the water in the summer months. The Raven day-use picnic shelter is the largest of the shelters and is conveniently located near the Auke Village Campground. However, visitors must be aware of bear safety while exploring the Tongass National Forest, as bears frequently roam the area. It is important to pack-in, pack-out garbage and to stay on developed paths to protect tree root systems.
