Boyington Oak Tree
β OpenThe Boyington Oak Tree is a historic and legendary oak tree located in Mobile, Alabama. The tree is said to have grown from the heart of Charles R. S. Boyington, a man who was wrongfully convicted and executed for a murder he did not commit in 1835. Despite his protests of innocence, Boyington was sentenced to death by hanging. Before his execution, he proclaimed that an oak tree would grow from his heart to prove his innocence. True to his words, an oak tree did grow on top of his grave, where he was buried in the Church Street Graveyard. The Boyington Oak still stands today, reaching approximately 60 feet tall with branches as long as 110 feet. Some people claim to hear crying and whispering noises near the tree, leading to beliefs that Boyington's ghost remains nearby, seeking vindication. Visit the Boyington Oak Tree at 107 South Bayou Street in Mobile, Alabama to witness this unique piece of history.
