"Where I come from, there is an old saying, "try organizing a wedding or try building a house." The implication being that they are both really grueling enterprises. If you succeed, then you have truly accomplished something. We were first time home builders and as such, we went in with lots of research done via internet but with near zero practical experience. In the process of building the house, we realized that the learning curve was steep, some valuable lessons were noted and walked away with tons of thoughts to share for future home builders. Bottomline upfront: building with Copper Creek is reliable and they provide a quality product. Ours was a custom home and we designed most of what went into the house. As one knows, a lot depends on the subcontractors who perform various tasks and Ranjit Sharma, the proprietor of the firm has excellent and deep-rooted connections in the community. As a result, everyone who came to work, from the guys who worked different parts of building such as excavation, the laying of the foundation, the drywall installation, roof installation, insulation, electric, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC and water, exterior bricks, retaining wall in the backyard to mention only a few did an amazing job. It takes a long time to establish these networks to ensure that you get these quality workers and Copper Creek delivers on these fronts. Designing your home from scratch takes a lot of work. Decision making must be your forte and here we were very grateful to Ranjit for always talking to us and walking us through the choices and selections we could potentially make. We really appreciated the time and energy that Ranjit dedicated to ensure that we were able to make the selections on time and his recommended vendors for the most part was good and were keen on delivering quality products. The only issue we had, which perhaps had less to do with Copper Creek and more to do with our own limited knowledge of building a house is that you would invariably go above your allotted “allowances” (that is part of the building price) and incur additional costs in what are known as “change orders.” Often, we found that the allowances were not enough to cover for the basic installations we needed in the house. So, our final price ended up being more than what we had anticipated. From what we understand though, this is an industry wide issue and part of the building process. So, my recommendation would be that if you are planning to build a custom home and you have the time to do so, please shop around for the prices with multiple vendors and then compare them with the quoted allowances in the contract. If there is a wide discrepancy, try talking to the builder and find out if you can negotiate the price. This would prove helpful in the long run. We are very happy with the house that Ranjit and Copper Creek built for us. It has been 17 months since we have moved in. We had a couple of minor issues in the first few months, which Ranjit quickly took care of for us. The one-year inspection also happened quite smoothly and there were very few things that needed some attention. We also know that we can rely on Copper Creek for maintenance issues as long as we are living in this house. So, while the process of building a house was grueling, eventually, we came out smiling. Copper Creek ensured this outcome."
