Welcome to the Vigo County Highway Department

Located at 3250 East Haythorne Avenue in Terre Haute, Indiana, the Vigo County Highway Department is committed to enhancing and maintaining the county's infrastructure. As a local government office, we are responsible for the upkeep of over 800 miles of roads, 200 bridges, and numerous culverts and right of ways, excluding state highways and roads within city or town limits. Our duties extend to winter operations, including snow and ice removal, as well as managing signage and right of way permitting.

In a recent development, the Highway and Engineering Departments have merged, with the County Engineer now serving as Highway Director. This integration has led to the formation of two specialized divisions: Engineering Services and the newly established Geographic Information System (GIS) Department. The GIS Department plays a crucial role in improving efficiency for infrastructure projects, aiding in planning and budgeting activities.
