Our primary responsibilities include assessing the value of real property, which encompasses land and buildings, as well as personal property, which includes fixed assets owned by businesses. These assessments are essential for calculating the property taxes owed by individual taxpayers, ensuring a fair distribution of the tax burden.
Under the leadership of Michele Bedwell, a Level II Assessor Appraiser, our office maintains detailed records of the physical characteristics of all real properties, such as building size, land area, location, and type. By closely monitoring real estate market conditions and sales data, we strive to provide accurate property valuations that reflect the current market value in use.
In compliance with Indiana state regulations, we conduct annual visits to 25% of the county’s parcels, ensuring that all properties are re-evaluated every four years. Real property assessments are conducted on January 1st each year, with property tax payments due in the Treasurer’s Office on May 10th and November 10th.
