"On a resent flight from NJ to FL we needed to divert to the west and find another airport for our overnight stop. We landed after sunset at KIIY. This is a small town in GA. The FPO had already closed and there wasn't anyone around. The listed phone number went to a voicemail. Our only hope was to call a local restaurant listed in the airport directory and ask for help. To my surprise, the lady at the restaurant put us in touch with the most helpful people you will ever meet. John Singleton of the Wilkes County Chamber of Commerce texted me back and had already called a board member of the Airport Authority. His name is Harris Blackmon and you will not find a nicer southern gentleman. Harris drove out to the airport, helped us tie down the aircraft, and gave us a ride into town to the hotel. He even walked in with us to make sure we could get rooms for the night. I am happy to say that everyone we meet in this town treated us like family. I can highly recommend the airport and the town for anyone going in that direction. I hope to use KIIY as my favorite fuel stop on my way to Oshkosh! Thank you all again for being so kind and helpful."
