Hertz Car Rental - Salem Bridge Street HLE 33 Bridge Street, Salem, MA 01970

"I rented a car from this location on May 15th and this was the worst rental experience I have ever had. First, the car smelled of cigarettes and other smoke, had a quarter tank of gas, and had trash in the trunk. There were no other options for other cars on the lot. Second, we had to drive all the way to Portland Maine in the car. After arriving in Portland, I spent over 45mins on the phone trying to speak to a representative. After being ignored on the phone I drove to the Portland Airport to address this problem and exchange the car. Third, While trying to trade the car out at the airport the representative closed out the rental completely and we had to start the reservation process over again, which changed my original drop off location, further adding to the process when I dropped off the car at my original location. Lastly, during this process I have tried to call the main number to speak with a representative. Hertz does an amazing job at not allowing you to speak with anyone on the phone. They have gone above and beyond in the painstaking steps they have put in place so you cannot talk to anyone and I mean anyone. They would only communicate via email. In the end for all of my time that was stolen from me while on vacation I was give back $100. Do yourself the favor and go to Enterprise where they actually know how to treat customers."

"Reserved a car through Expedia, tried to call Hertz to confirm but no answer. I got to Hertz early for the car (1030 am for 11 am Res). After being asked to wait, no problem, left for coffee and then came back about 11:15. The doors were all locked with a sign saying "be back in 15", not great, but nothing I can do. After a *25* min wait standing outside with another group, now ahead of me, the staff person came back, unlocked the doors, and then after another 5 min asked me my name and reservation. I was then told they 'weren't taking reservations' and that they had no cars; not good at all, but again, nothing I can do, so I called an Uber to Enterprise and left (admittedly the reservation was on short notice, that's on Expedia). BUT THEN, *2 days later* I get stuck with a "No Show" charge on the CC I used for the reservation - which I'm still spending time dealing with, in addition to being out at least one Uber ride and about 2 hours of time. *Avoid this operation* and use Enterprise - they're at least on top of their own business and from my experience easy to deal with. Last, I've used both Hertz and Enterprise in Salem in the past and while this with Hertz rose to the level of a review it's consistent with my experiences there before - never pleasant. Again, I've tried to call Hertz to cancel this bogus charge but never an answer, thus this post. Edit: by the way, your "link" below is dead/bogus and no one has answered the phone all day."

"This is a very small location, but easy to get to. It's less than a mile from the train station. We walked to it, but I wouldn't walk it again. I definitely recommend getting an Uber/Lyft from the train station. The attendant was very welcoming and professional. Not a lot of vehicle options to choose from, but we lucked out and got the last SUV available. Easy self-service drop off when the office is closed."

"Booking online was easy. The price was right. The vehicle was great... but there was an hour wait to get the car on a scheduled pick up. I honestly would have rated this much lower if it wasn't for the guy who helped me. When i say down with him, there was seat dripping down his face, he didn't tell me what to do if i had a problem or an accident with the car or how to return the key or anything.... it's because HE DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO DO THIS! He said he would go take pictures and bring the cat around front so i walked around the building and saw him vacuuming and preparing my car, as I'm guessing he did for the 3 people before me in line! This is a 1 man operation so shame on Hertz for making it this way. I'm torn as to whether or not I'll return there. I now despise Hertz, but i don't want this man to suffer in their stead. Positive attitude, smiled AMF apologized for the wait, wasn't complaining or making excuses, extremely professional. I would hire him myself if he ever approached me. So, yeah, buyer beware lol"

"Rented for a 3 day trip and booked an EV due to fact that I am on the market for an EV. Kenia (on her way to a well deserved vacation) was amazing and great at answering my questions and giving me an upgrade to the new (5000 mi) Kia EV6 that was charged to above 80% (really helped w/trip), really impressed w/the car. When dropping off the car, dropped it off w/79% charge and just w/in the 29 min grace period and notified Kevin if he could waive the fee, when I looked at my final bill, the total came out to exactly what i booked it for. Really impressed by the service and will continue to rent from Hertz, being a former frequent Enterprise customer for work, and may be on the market from Hertz for one of there used EVs. Great job Kenia & Kevin."
