About the Business

Black Resource Center

Welcome to the Black Resource Center, located at the A C Bilbrew Library, 150 East El Segundo Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90061. Established in 1978 as a special service of the LA County Library, the Black Resource Center (BRC) is dedicated to serving the informational and educational needs of African Americans and the broader community. Our mission is to support research and study on the unique social, historical, and cultural aspects of the African American experience.

As a vital link in preserving African American heritage, the BRC offers a wealth of specialized materials and resources. Our collection includes books, eBooks, and audiobooks by and about African Americans and the African Diaspora, catering to all age groups. Each February, we proudly celebrate Black History Month with special events and resources that highlight the rich history and contributions of Black Americans.

In addition to our extensive library collection, we offer a variety of services, including the opportunity to check out Kindle Paperwhites pre-loaded with expertly selected titles. For those who need digital access, our kiosk provides laptops for in-library use, available to patrons with a valid LA County Library card.

The BRC also supports educational development through our Homework Centers, providing enhanced resources and technology to assist students in their academic pursuits. Furthermore, our Family Place Library initiative offers early childhood information, parent education, and family support, recognizing the critical role these elements play in a child’s growth and development.

We invite you to explore our resources and participate in our programs to enrich your understanding and appreciation of the African American experience. For more information, please contact us at 310.538.0059 or visit our website.
