About the Business

Welcome to Orizaba Park, a vibrant community oasis and tourist attraction nestled in the heart of Long Beach, California. Located at 1435 Orizaba Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90804, this 3.72-acre park offers a perfect blend of recreation, history, and natural beauty for visitors of all ages.

Originally acquired by the city in 1923, Orizaba Park has undergone numerous transformations, evolving from a Street Department Yard to a beloved community space enriched with lush landscaping and diverse amenities. The park's history is intertwined with the city's development, notably marked by the dedication of the Pacific Electric Railway right-of-way for park expansion in 1990. This expansion introduced two half-court basketball courts, a vibrant mural, and a picturesque lawn area, enhancing the park's appeal.

In 2007, KaBoom and Jet Blue sponsored the installation of new playground equipment, further enriching the park's family-friendly environment. The park's most significant transformation occurred in 2012 with the addition of a skate park, soccer field, full-sized basketball court, and outdoor exercise equipment, all set amidst beautifully landscaped surroundings.

Orizaba Park is also home to the unique art installation, "The Train Has Left the Station," a stainless steel replica of the historic Red Car, crafted by local artist Patrick Vogel. This striking piece commemorates the crucial role of trains in Long Beach's history.

The park's modern amenities include a state-of-the-art community center, opened in 2014, designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, demonstrating a commitment to sustainability by significantly reducing water and electricity consumption.

Whether you're looking to enjoy a leisurely stroll along the walking paths, engage in a friendly basketball game, explore the skate park, or simply relax in the picnic area, Orizaba Park offers something for everyone. Come and experience the charm and vitality of this cherished Long Beach destination.

"No bathrooms available. Too many leaves and flowers in the skatepark causing slippage."

"Great Park, essential green space in an urban jungle of hard surfaces. They have a cool skatepark which is hard, mostly the rest is nice and soft, green park, grass, and an organic “Long Beach Organic” community garden with raised beds. Growing food, getting to be one with nature. Promoting permaculture, food security, healthy living, mental wellness, engagement with your local community, connecting people, connected community."

"One of my personal favorite little teeny mini parks that's open all the time and you get to yourself early in the morning. Please keep our skateparks straight"

"(After School/ Summer program) The Pros: Program is free. They have activities to keep the kids busy. Staff seem friendly. The kids are given snacks. They close at 6pm. *They I think still stay open till 8pm for Teenager's. The Cons: Playground bridge is damaged. They *NEVER* open the facility doors on time. (Supposed to open at 10:00 am) As a former YMCA Assistant Site Director (Back in the day) I realize it's tough for Staff at this facility to accurately watch all the Children at a public park with no fences. Kids say the bathrooms are always dirty. Parents don't have to sign the kids out. Kid to staff ratio isn't adequate."
