"I’m a 100% service connected disabled Marine. My house sits directly in front of a road they’ve been repaving. Road work and other things like traffic are to be expected when buying a home like this, I know. However, these guys came in and set up camp since May 2018 and won’t finish when they said they would. The project manager gave me a finish date of June 13. I scheduled medical treatments accordingly. I’m battling chronic Lyme disease and medical treatment called immunotherapy requires me to rest all day. A costly treatment not covered by insurance which I’ve paid for and started. It took me 20 years to find the right diagnosis and treatment. 20 years of insomnia...and this immunotherapy makes my body sleep finally. Around June 13 the project manager told me they would be finished by the end of June. For me, that’s saying, “We’ll be in control of your ability to rest and recover until the end of the month”. I was in survival mode until the end of June, often eating and resting in my car. I almost booked a hotel through the end of June, but they’re pretty full during the summer in a tourist city like ours. They didn’t finish by the end of June. I keep getting the runaround from this project manager. The next date I was given was July 13. That has come & gone. Now there are days where they leave their equipment parked, including portable toilets, and take the day off. I’m not just talking about the 4th of July. The project manager said, “You will know when we’re working directly behind your house when there are ‘NO PARKING’ signs on an orange pole or cone in your area”. That lasted for a little while, then they stopped giving us any kind of notice. Some of the heavy equipment literally shakes my house upstairs. My ears and head are in pain from having to wear noise canceling earbuds for months. I couldn’t hear my child with autism ringing the doorbell when she forgot her house key. She sat outside crying until I saw her through the window. It is a total invasion on our lives because of how long they’re taking. On weekends I wake up at 6:30 am (time when their trucks start beeping) in “fight or flight” because my body has adjusted to the chaos. Maybe if they’d finish in a timely manner none of this would be happening to us. It’s an absolute nightmare. I wouldn’t have bought this home if I knew the city would allow such a ridiculously drawn out road project. I can’t do my next scheduled round of medical treatment because it requires rest and they won’t be finished. They are literally prolonging my pain and suffering."
