About the Business

Santa Monica Mountains NRA

Welcome to Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, a breathtaking natural park located in Calabasas, California, just a short drive from the bustling city of Los Angeles. Our park offers a serene escape into nature with diverse hiking opportunities suitable for all levels of adventurers.

Explore Solstice Canyon, where you can choose from easy, moderate, or challenging hikes through stunning coastal sage scrub and vibrant riparian plant communities. Enjoy a leisurely picnic or a peaceful stroll along the Solstice Canyon Trail, or test your endurance on the Rising Sun Trail. One of our most popular attractions is the perennial waterfall, a perfect destination for hikers. Along your journey, keep an eye out for local wildlife such as acorn woodpeckers, alligator lizards, fence lizards, and the majestic red-tailed hawk soaring above.

The canyon’s landscape tells a story of resilience, with architectural ruins from the past visible along the trails. Discover the remains of the Keller House, a historic stone hunting cabin, and the ruins of The Roberts Ranch house, designed by the renowned architect Paul Revere Williams in 1952. Williams, a trailblazer in his field, was the first African American member of the American Institute of Architects and also designed the iconic LAX Theme Building.

Located at the intersection of Corral Canyon Road and Solstice Canyon Road in Malibu, CA, our park is an ideal weekend destination, especially with its proximity to the beach. However, parking is limited, so we highly encourage carpooling. If parking along Corral Canyon Road, ensure your vehicle is completely off the road striping for safety. Restrooms are conveniently situated 100 feet up the main trail from the parking lot, and drinking fountains are available at the parking lot and along the Solstice Canyon Trail. On warm days, please remember to bring sufficient water.

Dogs are welcome in the park but must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet at all times. Please help us maintain the park’s beauty by cleaning up after your pets.

Experience the natural beauty and historical richness of Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. We look forward to welcoming you to this unique and enchanting destination.
