"I have reserved a car at RSW for pick up ahead of time. I upgraded the car at the check in desk, went to the car and the full screen in the ford explorer was not working showing reverse camera at all time, no electronics worked including radio, I went back to the counter to exchange the reservation, I was told I am getting brand new ford explorer, once I proceeded to new car spot, the car wasn’t parked in the space indicated. I had to again go back to the terminal and ask again for a car. I was traveling with family and small children and being in a rental garage for 45 minutes is not acceptable especially that I chose to be a Avis preferred member. New car that was assigned is definitely not same category that I've upgraded to and is an older beat up model not the new one we were promised. On top of all the things above the car that we drove off the garage wasn’t cleaned - the windshield was covered in bugs and the mats and seats were not vacuumed. We also got charged a fuel fee even though we returned car with full tank as per our contract. There were few other fees such as Select and Go Upgrade (we did not get the car we wanted so this fee should have never show up on the bill). So it is for sure a big, huge disappointment as I thought renting from company such as Avis will be better experience than the smaller, less known companies. I’ve asked for refund or adjustment of the price at the counter but we would have to wait for a manager to come out and we already lost over an hour of our time and we arrived to the planned event late. Horrible experience and we won't be recommending nor renting with Avis in the future."

"I rented a car at the Fort Myers Airport. 40 minutes into the drive my car became un-drivable and had to be towed. Things happen but the way Avis handled it was horrible. They wanted me to go back to the airport to rent another car. Unfortunately I had no car because it was towed and I had no way to get back to the airport, I was left stranded. After 90 minutes on the phone with customer service they still wanted me to make my way back to rent another car. They refused to pick me up or bring me another car! So, I called Enterprise Rent a Car and they came and picked me up, drove me to their nearest store and I was in a new car within 30 minutes. They made my day! Getting a refund from Avis was a whole other issue. Not only did I wait in line at the airport for an hour to pick up my Avis rental, it was another hour wait in line when I returned a week later to start my refund process which couldn’t be completed at the airport. Another 30 minutes on the phone and I’m finally got a refund. My experience with Avis was a time wasting, aggravating, highly frustrating experience."

"Awful service. Hidden or unexplained fees assessed after drop off. Found extra charges on my card a day later.. car was dirty and smelled like marijuana when picked up. Was sent to the lot to retrieve car that wasn’t there. Had to go back inside to wait in long line again for the dirty smelly car.. lot attendant was rude.. razor blade left on the trunk. Such a bad experience in every aspect. From pick up to drop off. This was a “luxury rental” rented a convertible for a special week long trip.. it was not a good experience."

"I booked and prepaid on Uber and got an amazing deal. The staff at pickup at Edison Mall and RSW were both wonderful and efficient. The car wasn't great (dirty and damaged), but we got a free upgrade to a bigger car and the free upgrade made it worth the bad car."

"Many reasons for the 1 star..car was not cleaned very well if cleaned at all (had salt stains on driver and passenger seats) steering wheel was torn up on top (vinyl on the steering wheel was missing on top with indentations in foam). Car had maintenance lights on (tire pressure and low windshield fluid) car had 78,000 miles on it. Customer service was bad, hard to understand and not very helpful and was told I would receive an email from 2 different customer service agents but never received the emails. (wasted almost 2 hours on the phone with them between customer service agents) Very bad experience..not what I expect from AVIS..never had issues in the past. Can’t believe they rented out a car like this. I will be steering away and using another rental car company."
