"That park was nice. It was clean it was a dog park also I saw so many different friendly dogs. The folks in the park was smiley everybody was relaxed. I sat in there 3hrs and just enjoyed the calmness."

"The park is wonderful, but I'm here to speak to you all about the Shirley Chisholm Circle, which is located on one specific end of Brower Park. The Kingston Ave. side of the park. There are benches and plenty of shade here. I plopped down to read my book and watched a little kid scoot around the park. She always stopped at the Chisholm Circle to watch over her park and look for the next route. It made me think of Shirley Chisholm, the woman the circle is named after. Everyone knows she was the first African American woman to be elected to Congress in 1968, representing Bed-Stuy. Who could have thought that this little girl from Brooklyn could become a US Congresswoman for seven straight terms? She and her two sisters were sent to Barbados when Shirley was five years old. They lived with her maternal grandmother and Shirley said of her grandmother: "Granny gave me strength, dignity, and love. I learned from an early age that I was somebody. I didn't need the black revolution to tell me that." As I thought about her on the bench, I started to think about my own political possibilities. Why should I stop my political advancement after having been class president in 10th grade and later, being elected Vice President of the Try All The Spices In Mom's Cabinet Club. Of course, my older brother insisted that he should be President. How could I argue? He was four years older than me. Again, Shirley Chisholm rings in my head. She was the oldest of her siblings, so she was the most likely to be an elected official. After you're done sitting in the Chisholm Circle, I recommend going over to that janky skate park that lies in the north end of the park. There's nobody there and absolutely no kids are skating because it looks like it was made in 1985. The occasional family will traipse through, but they're going to the nice part of the park. You can pretty much do whatever you want in the skate park especially if you're there on a Sunday and the Children's Museum is closed. I just read my book and looked up facts about Shirley Chisholm's grandma."
