About the Business

John Street Park

Welcome to John Street Park

Nestled at a unique vantage point north of the Manhattan Bridge, John Street Park offers breathtaking vistas and waterfront spaces that the public can now enjoy. Located at John Street, Brooklyn, New York 11201, this picturesque park and tourist attraction is a tranquil escape in the heart of the city.

Explore the park's stunning features, including pedestrian bridges over a tidal salt marsh, tree-lined pathways, and a spacious 13,000-square-foot gathering lawn. A pedestrian bridge across the East River connects John Street Park to the Jay Street Plaza and northern neighborhoods, making it a seamless part of the community.

Discover the park's rich history through its salvaged industrial elements, like the footings of bygone buildings and original Belgian block and railroad tracks from the Jay Street Plaza. These features echo the area's industrial past while adding a unique charm to your visit. The tidal channel, which allows the East River to flow through the park, is a must-see, as it is crossed by scenic pedestrian bridges.

For your convenience, restrooms are available at various locations, including Pier 6 at Fornino, Quay Tower, the Boathouse in the Pier 5 Uplands, and more. Leashed dogs are welcome on park pathways, with two dedicated dog runs located at Main Street and Pier 6. Please ensure your furry friends are licensed, tagged, and vaccinated for rabies. Pet waste bags are provided, and dog runs are routinely cleaned.

During icy conditions, non-salt ice melt is used on park pathways to ensure safety. For photographers, permits are required for commercial shoots or groups larger than 20. More information about the permitting process can be found on our permits page.

After your exploration, enjoy numerous dining options within Brooklyn Bridge Park and nearby areas. Discover a variety of eateries and bars through local business improvement districts, including DUMBO BID, Atlantic Avenue BID, and Montague Street BID.

Come and experience the natural beauty and historical charm of John Street Park—where the city meets serenity.

"Gorgeous views all the way around. One can get lost for hours strolling around DUMBO and its surrounding neighborhoods between all of the parks, stores and general sights to see. Bundle up during cooler months for the sometimes stiff breeze flowing off of the water. Beautiful slice of paradise in an urban jungle."

"From its unique vantage point north of the Manhattan Bridge at a dramatic bend in the East River, John Street opens up vistas and waterfront space never before enjoyed by the public. Gorgeous spot to get a portrait of the Brooklyn and the Manhattan Bridges. I love the rocks by the water, you can just sit there and kick it back. There’s really no words to describe the great views you get of the Lower Manhattan skyline. If you love bridges, you’ve got to come here. Because the Manhattan Bridge has the subway running across it, you can hear it. In the park, it’s not too loud, but the closer you get to it, the louder it is, so caution to those who are sensitive to loud sounds. Adding pictures of the streets near the park too. Overall: Beautiful little park in DUMBO area with spectacular views of Manhattan skyline and the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges.."
