About the Business

Welcome to St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, a cherished part of the Divine Mercy Parish located at 26 Olive Street, Brooklyn, New York. As a vibrant place of worship, St. Nicholas Church is steeped in history, having been founded in 1866 to serve the German Catholic families settling in the East Williamsburg area. This church is one of three unique communities that form the Divine Mercy Parish, established by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio in 2011.
The Divine Mercy Parish is a harmonious merger of St. Nicholas, St. Cecilia’s Church, and St. Francis of Paola, each with its own rich heritage and contribution to the Williamsburg/Greenpoint neighborhoods. Our parish is dedicated to unifying the diverse members of our community by offering a wide range of activities across our three worship sites, celebrating our multicultural legacy.
St. Nicholas Church is renowned for its historical architecture. The current Gothic Revival structure, designed by architect William Schiekel and completed in 1886, stands as a testament to the community's growth and enduring faith. It originally began as a multi-purpose building that served as a church, rectory, convent, and school. Over the decades, the church has welcomed waves of immigrants, enriching the parish with a tapestry of cultures, including German, Italian, Polish, Puerto Rican, Dominican, Mexican, and other Latin American communities.
Visitors and parishioners alike are invited to explore our historic site and participate in our spiritual and community activities. Whether you are attending Mass, joining a community event, or exploring our storied past, St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church offers a welcoming sanctuary for all who seek solace, faith, and fellowship.
Join us at St. Nicholas Church, where history and faith come together to create a vibrant community in the heart of Brooklyn.

"The most touching stained glass panels. They are not high and focus on one theme so easy to read. Highly recommended. A gem"
"St. Nicholas Roman Catholic church was established in 1866 at Olive and Devoe in East Williamsburg. Neighborhood demographics have shifted and the church now primarily serves Hispanic and Italian congregants."
"Still shining and beautiful. Went to Spanish mass 10:30am Sunday. Didn't know it was a Spanish mass. Very impressive and devoted parishioners. Sacred!"
"One of the best church ever."
