"Let me preface this by saying that I consider myself an active part of my medical team, along with medical staff and my pharmacist. If Doc says to do something, I do my best to do it. I had a 1:30 appointment, saw my doctor come back from lunch about 5 minutes before, we smiled and nodded at each other and I was called into the exam room, where I waited for a FULL 60 MINUTES. I practically had to step on my doctor's lab coat so that they would stay long enough to answer any of my questions. Not just once...EVERY visit. They couldn't get out of that exam room fast enough. You expect your medical provider to say helpful things, like 1) "I'm putting you on medication," 2) "I'll need to see you again in six weeks to see how you're doing before I'll renew it," 3) "This shingles vaccine comes in two parts, so you'll need to come back for a second dose," What was my Sun Valley experience? I would find out I was prescribed medication by getting an unexpected a phone call from my pharmacy. I would find out the doctor wanted to see me in six weeks by hearing from my pharmacy that I need to call my doctor's office before they could refill, and when did, I'd hear for the first time that I was supposed to read the doctor's mind and come in for an appointment that I didn't know I had to make. I can't comply with doctor's orders I don't know about. And don't get me started on how during the pandemic, before there were vaccines, their staff was very nonchalant about their own mask usage. That, and this was the only health care facility at the time that forced its patients to stew together in a waiting room rather than let us wait in our cars (or outside) and be called on our mobile phones. So much for social distancing. The Patient Navigator office was fantastic, and the only reason I stayed with SVH as long as I did. But even that wasn't enough to convince me to stay. Yeah, it's really nice that they have baskets of free condoms at the front desk for those who need them (no sarcasm there -- that really IS cool). But given my experience, baskets of free blood pressure meds would have been more appreciated. If I didn't need them walking in, I certainly would have needed them by the time I left. And the kicker? I *still* get an occasional message from them to remind me to schedule a physical...even though I left their practice three years ago!"
