About the Business

Montefiore Medical Center-Transplant

Welcome to the Montefiore Medical Center-Transplant, located at 111 East 210th Street, The Bronx, New York 10467. As a premier healthcare institution, we are proud to be recognized as a national leader in transplantation, pioneering groundbreaking discoveries and saving lives. Our center is an internationally renowned referral site, ranked in the top 1% of all hospitals in the nation for complex specialty transplant care by U.S. News & World Report.

At Montefiore, we specialize in cancer-related transplantation, collaborating closely with our esteemed Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of the elite NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the U.S. Our expertise extends to dual organ transplants, offering hope to patients with simultaneous heart, liver, kidney, or lung failure—a distinction held by only a few hospitals nationwide.

Our legacy includes one of the longest-running adult and pediatric transplant programs globally. We have achieved notable milestones, such as performing one of the world’s first pediatric kidney transplants and pioneering the first lung-liver transplant in New York State. Our innovative spirit continues with the world’s first HIV-positive to HIV-positive heart transplant and being the sole destination in New York for bloodless heart transplantation.

Montefiore Einstein Center for Transplantation boasts some of the highest survival rates in the U.S., including a 100% survival rate for pediatric and adult live donor liver transplant recipients. Our advanced research and innovation efforts have led to significant contributions in transplantation for highly immune-sensitized patients, organ rejection mechanisms, and stem-cell therapy for regenerating heart muscle.

We are leaders in living donor transplantation, offering cutting-edge desensitization programs and advanced immunology support for patients with challenging blood type compatibility. Our revolutionary "I Want to Live" Digital Tool, powered by AI, helps patients seeking kidney or liver transplants share their stories and connect with potential donors.

Montefiore is proud to be part of the American Society of Transplantation's Living Donor Circle of Excellence, supporting living donor employees. Our robust living donor program significantly reduces wait times for matched recipients, with survival rates among the highest in the nation.

Join us in our mission to advance transplantation through research, education, and patient care. Your support helps us continue our long-standing tradition of excellence and innovation in transplantation. Discover inspiring patient stories and learn how you can contribute to our lifesaving work.

"One of the worst hospitals for a transplant from both perspective from both donation and receiving. The aftercare is completely horrific. My partner gave my mom his kidney and they almost made her lose it. His aftercare is non existent as well. They also ruined his arm during testing because they couldnt do a basic needle. My mother is currently receiving after care by true professionals at Cornell. What a world of difference. THANK GOD FOR CORNELL! They are not a one size fit all approach but actually take time to treat you instead of one side fit all approach or no approach at all. They pretty much told my mom the BK virus was killing her kidney and there was nothing they could do. Glad to say, Cornell helped out immediately with innovative ideas. Shes even on 75% less medication."

"Excellent transplant surgeon. Aftercare is awful. Side-effects are ignored. Not a good experience."
