"Dr Bernas performed my left knee ACL repair. It was a pleasant experience to work with him. I highly recommend him for anybody's orthopedics need."

"Dr. Bernas performed arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery on my right shoulder 3 years ago and I have to say he had to fix three tendons. I feel good, no pain and have full range of motion with no real issues. I just need to think now before I lift, push, pull or reach, so as to not reinjure myself. Happy!"

"I had sustained several injuries while walking when I missed a single step which caused me to fall hard against a concrete walkway. Shortly after this injury is when I met Dr. Bernas along with Travis Schake and the UBMD team. An MRI later determined that I sustained two partial tears and one full tear of my rotator cuff. Dr. Bernas explained the various treatment options very thoroughly and we determined the best course of treatment would be surgery. Surgery was performed the week of Thanksgiving 2022. Approximately 1-2 weeks after surgery the majority of the pain had subsided leaving me with weakness & slight discomfort from not being able to move the arm for a period of time. I concluded my post-surgery treatment with several months of physical therapy sessions at the UBMD South Campus location while performing homework sessions to the best of my ability. Less than six-months after my surgery I was released from the care of both Dr. Bernas and the physical therapy team. If I had a chance to redo this whole experience, I would first watch where I was walking but if I still sustained these injuries then, I would still choose the path that led me to Dr. Bernas. I am very happy with the end results from your care. It has been a pleasure being one of your patients! Peter"

"I had a hip arthroscopy performed by Dr. Bernas to repair a labral tear and impingement. My hip was in rough shape but the surgery was successful and as of writing this, I'm 9 months out and so grateful every day at how much better I feel. I'm a 27y/o former athlete and still very active and I'm completely back to being able to do the things I love. When I first met Dr. Bernas I felt immediately relieved. He was relaxed and patient and always gave me enough time to process information and ask questions. When surgery became a real option for me, I was very nervous and ended up making an extra appointment just to talk to him and ask questions. He politely answered about his experience and even answered a few dumb questions I had about scary things I read on the internet. He also repeatedly told me that he would never force anyone into surgery, and simply explained my options and reasons why I would be a good candidate. When I finally committed to surgery, I went in surprisingly at ease because I felt informed and confident with Dr. Bernas. I want to add that I did not rush and was never rushed into surgery as an option. I tried PT for a few months first, and had a thorough diagnostic process with Dr. Bernas including x-rays, manual tests where he would move my hip/leg around, and an MRI with numbing and contrast. All of these things helped determine that I might be a good surgery candidate. Seriously can't thank him enough for helping me. (also shout out to Jordan Bergmann who was my post-surgery PT at the same facility, who helped me just as much!)"

"I have a great respect for Dr. Bernas with whom I have met with 3x now, if my memory serves me right. He isn’t quick to want to rush into surgery, unless absolutely necessary. If other methodologies can be utilized to improve or heal the injured area, he will offer those avenues to the patient first. (In my opinion, this is exactly the kind of Specialist I want to be aligned with!! Because if he says you need surgery, there is no question in my mind that there are no other options. Because of how he has treated me with 3 rounds of therapies, I TRUST him inexplicably). With this being shared, I have some decisions to make. 1) Do I live with my shoulder as is which is far better than it once was? 2) Do I receive injections as a plan of care as needed as I continue to age? 3) Do I have the surgery with the possibility of it becoming even better, worse or remaining the same? I trust Dr. Bernas to help guide me toward a decision when I meet with him next as he is the most trustworthy specialist I’ve had the fortune of having. I am very grateful."
