"Went for Easter brunch ($50 per person). The food was cold. The interior of the building was cold (many patrons, including my wife, had their coats on due to the chill). The carving station had an individual coughing on the food. I recognize this was likely a benefit for Mansion on James, but it was very poorly done. I cannot suggest others take this Easter brunch as a good holiday meal based on our experience."
"A beautiful place that is a gem in our community. Great people who care, keep the place that is still vibrant and excellent and perfect to have an event at. Went to a amazing lunch and book talk there. Food was fantastic as was the staff. Very helpful. You can feel the history in the place"
"I made a reservation for the mothers day brunch before Easter. When we showed up this morning they didn't have a table for us. They pushed 2 tables together in a hallway pressed up against another couple. When we mentioned that it was quite awkward the catering lady snapped at us that it was all she had. Then we went to get some food and that was absolutely awful. The bacon was cheap microwaved bacon, the French toast was unrecognizable and the pasta was disgusting, the carving station was buzzing with flies and the caterer was yelling at the carver for giving people steak. Do not waste your money this was absolutely disgusting. The staff was incredibly rude. The building itself is beautiful it's a shame this is how they operate it."
"Went for a mothers day brunch. We made our reservation 2 months in advance. The building itself is beautiful. The seating was uncomfortable, they pushed 2 tables together and I was sitting with my head basically inside of the fireplace. When we reminded the host that we would be needing a highchair for our 2 year old she acted like I was bothering her and she tried to steal a highchair from the table across from us, there was a child in the highchair and she was asking the parents if they "really needed" it. So awkward and unprofessional. We then went to check out the food and somehow that was worst part. All the food was old, wet and soggy. The bacon was cheap microwaved. So not only was the staff horrible the food was disgusting. Do not waste your money or your time."
"I went for the Garden Tour and tour of the Mansion. The tour guides were lovely and knowledgeable. The family that built the home were abolitionists and they used their lumber business to ferry former slaves to freedom in Canada. We should make sure this gem isn't lost!"
