"Another great spot to walk dogs, especially older ones as it's mainly flat."

"1/5/2022 Today my dog, Odin and I hiked the Black River feeder canal from Dutch Hill Rd in Forestport, NY to Fenton Heights Rd…My estimate is that it was approx a 3 mile hike one way. It was a warmer winter day and snow was minimal (heavy dusting, crunchy). The “trail” is wide and easily navigated. It runs along the canal (obviously) and at tymes you get a good glimpse of the raging Black River below! I was surprized to see a “power” facility and multiple houses have cropped up on the Forestport end of the trail in the many years since I last walked this trail. But just the same, it was a very nice, quiet walk with no other people encountered along the way. This is also a snowmobile route in winter (if we ever get snow) Very nice walk, i highly recommend it to anyone …very nice easy walking. One thing to add here, If you do walk this trail from Dutch Hill Rd be warned that there is a small steel deck bridge to cross almost immediately… if you bring a dog as I did, you WILL have to carry him across that bridge…dogs can NOT do these bridges!"
