Exciting News: Ashtabula County Local Food Guide - 6th Edition

In celebration of National Farmers’ Market Week, we are thrilled to announce the release of the 6th Edition of the Ashtabula County Local Food Guide. This annual guide is an invaluable resource, listing all farmers' markets, local food-producing farms, and meat processors within the county. It also includes information on honey producers, wineries that grow their own grapes, and a comprehensive list of resources related to local food.

Julie Wayman, OSU Community Development Educator, shared her excitement about this year's edition, which features 13 new farms and several new honey producers. Thanks to the Auditor’s Office GIS Department, this year’s guide also includes a much-requested online map, making it easier than ever to locate local food sources.

Events and Celebrations:

- National Farmers Market Week: August 6th - 12th

Celebrate the vital role farmers markets play in our food system by visiting your local farmers' market. The Ashtabula Farmers’ Market in the Historic Harbor District is open from 10 am to 2 pm.

- Harvest in the Harbor: Ashtabula Local Food Festival: October 8th, 10 am - 4 pm

Join us for a day of food, fun, and community at the Ashtabula Harbor. The festival will feature local food vendors, games for children, and live music.

Seasonal Highlights:

- Garlic and Chives: June is the perfect time to enjoy garlic and chives, which are in full bloom. Chive blossoms, with their delicate onion and light garlic taste, make a beautiful and nutritious addition to any meal.

- Hazelnuts: Currently in season, hazelnuts are a delicious and versatile local delicacy. Whether enjoyed raw or toasted, they offer numerous health benefits and are a staple in the Northeast Ohio local food movement.
