"The staff of this Hospice Program were extraordinary! They made a heart wrenching experience bearable. They were so supportive and caring. They were there to help me know what was happening next when it came to my mother’s decline. They taught me things I didn’t know and they prepared me as best they could for what was happening to my mother as she declined. My mother’s last weeks were comfortable and fear-free because of nurse Denny, social worker Kathleen, and the gentle aides Virginia (and her colleagues) who cared for mom everyday. Words cannot describe how pleased our family was to have this agency with us at the end. Thank you so much."
"Nursing part of Home health was wonderful then physical therapy was unprofessional and actually told a lie when I called the supervisor to speak to them about the behavior of their employee he was rude unprofessional and ignorant I told them I did not need services from their company anymore I felt my family was targeted because of being positive for covid and the physical therapist did not want to do services so he exaggerated a situation as him doing this I didn't feel my family was safe with someone like that in my home I had to discontinue services it's pretty sad when you call a supervisor to speak to them about something and he's rude and raises his voice I don't want to hear anything you say and talk down to like my family my father my brother and my employee and aid are all lying and his physical therapist staff one person is truth this was all over spilled coffee sad situation I will be going up higher than the supervisor to settle this situation"
"If I could put more stars I would. They not only took care of my dad, but my mother and me. They were amazing. Anyone who wants to take care of their loved one at home, during their last days, would be wise to have this team in their corner. I thank all of the UPMC hamot hospice team for your support, and understanding during a very hard time. You were amazing."
"I would never reccomend this agency to anyone! At first they were great. But as time went on it seemed they were more concerned with something else and not my moms care. One month into her care, they started to discharge her from hospice even though she showed signs of decrease. I asked multiple times what were there gages for decrease and I was never told, just that the nurse does not see signs of decrease. Also, I told them for three weeks that something was off with my mom. They never seemed to care or even give the appearance of trying to find out what was going on with my mom. Then they discharged her even though she lost over half her body weight (extremely obvious as her ribs were showing and so wee her hip bones), showed a drastic decrease in her ability to communicate (she stopped nodding her head in answer to questions, mostly smiled or stared at you in confusion)and was vomiting daily (got so bad it was coffee ground like we which means the presence of blood) all clearly visable one month from her discharge and up to the day she was discharged. At discharge, it was just here sign this, got to go bye. The nurse didn't even check my mom on the day of discharge even after I told her again that I was concerned about my mom, that something was not right. The nurse only pop her head in to say goodbye. Two days after her discharge she ended up in the hospital with a bowel obstruction so large "it would have been impossible for the hospice nurse to miss this, even with the vomiting. This has been here for a few months" Quote from the emergency doctor. It was reccomend that she should have never been discharged and should be admitted back to hospice. They denied her readmission UNLESS I put my mom in a nursing home because they felt I was "neglectful in her care" because I gave her tater tots one time (which up to this point, she was able to eat them easily) and she chocked. (That was the exact reason given for not admitting her back into their hospic) That one incident happened once. I never gave those to her again. Up to that point she was eating fine and we only had that one singular incident. While my mom was in hospice, I was harrassed multiple time by the social worker to put my mom in a nursing home even though this was not what my mom wanted. As far as the care I gave her, she was always dry, well cared for, and all her needs were addressed. I was told several times that the care I give her goes above snd beyond. That i was taking very good care of my mom. Her care at my house was better then any care she would have gotten in a nursing home. This bowel obstruction, that easily could have been dealt with much earlier but was ignored, caused a chain a very painful and an unnecessary time for my mom, which she ended up losing her battle a week later. Exactly a week and a half after they discharged."
