"When it comes to our child, 5 stars. The teachers and staff love our kids and want them to be able to shine in their own way. They help build their strengths and improve in areas they struggle. They give information, resources, and trainings for the parents, which is SO helpful, especially for those of us who are just starting our autism journey. They do a great job helping the kids communicate well, express their feelings in safe ways, and making sure the parents have the tools at home to maintain those skills. When it comes to support for service for them, though, I cannot recommend the current staff. The parents were in charge of a big fundraiser this summer and I watched one parent, who put hundreds of hours into the fundraiser and did more than any other parent, get walked all over by a couple other moms and the staff did nothing to defend her or to show their support and didn't even thank her for all of the work she put in. It got so bad a couple weeks before the actual fundraiser date that the mom felt unsafe, and without support from the NUAP staff for all she did, she ended up stepping back and pulling her child from the program. In this regard, there was a big lack of leadership and support. That parent showed up for everyone, including the people who worked with NUAP, even the moms who were being unkind. She built such a community for support for all of us and didn't tell anyone what was going on. When I learned the director knew what was going on and did nothing about it, I was so conflicted because I know how much they've done for our child. In the end, it showed a level of entitlement that left an awful taste in my mouth. For your child, yes, bring them to NUAP, but just be careful when it comes time for the fundraisers. Hopefully this won't happen again."
