About the Business

Butterfield Stage

Butterfield Stage, located at 201 South Denton Street in Gainesville, Texas, has been entertaining audiences for over 40 years. This not-for-profit community theater was founded in 1979 by Cooke County residents Rodger Boyce, Tom Carson, and Monica Hess. What began as a small playhouse has grown into an organization known for providing high-quality entertainment and fostering the arts in the community.

Housed in the historic former Carnegie Library, Butterfield Stage offers a unique experience for patrons, with theater seats repurposed from the Cooke County Courthouse. The theater's mission is to culturally enrich, educate, and entertain through theater and performing arts.

In addition to its regular productions, Butterfield Stage also established the Find the Light Scholarship program in the 2022-2023 season. This program awards two $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors from Cooke County High Schools or Home Schools who have shown a commitment to theater and plan to pursue theater-based courses in college. The scholarships are presented at Butterfield's annual Fish Fry in May.

Thank you for your continued support of Butterfield Stage! In addition to its main productions, the theater offers a Youth Theater Program with classes, camps, and productions such as Junie B Jones Jr, Advanced One Act, and Into the Woods Jr.

"Great place to enjoy community theater! The building first opened in 1914 as a Carnegie Library. It was later turned into a theater."

"Went today to see the children's production of Frozen and it was wonderful. The theater holds an old charm and the production and acting were wonderful. I'd never been before but will definitely be interested in buying season tickets!"
