"Update: I'm considering getting a second surgery at this facility and it is now considered "in network" for my insurance. Great! Unfortunately, getting an estimate for the facility fee for my surgery has been MUCH MUCH harder this time. They will only provide me with an estimate once the surgery has been scheduled and processed, which could take a while (5+ days) and I felt like the people I spoke with were overwhelmed and not happy to be answering my questions. Getting an estimate from another surgery center was immediate and very easy, so I won't be using Grove Creek for this surgery. 1st experience: I was hesitant at first to go with Grove Creek Surgery Center after reading some of the reviews on here and because they are considered "out of network" for my insurance. After talking more with my doctor I learned that he began doing surgeries here because of the high cost for his patients of doing surgeries at local hospitals and other surgery centers. This surgery center was formed by a large group of physicians who wanted an economical option for outpatient surgeries for their patients that was also high quality. Before choosing to have my surgery at Grove Creek, I decided to compare the prices of Grove Creek and the cheapest hospital option (Orem Community) available to me and found that Grove Creek was significantly cheaper even if they were out of network. I got the surgery codes from the doctor and then called the various providers to find out how much they would be charging for those procedures. These amounts are the amounts after all insurance adjustments are made. I had two ankle surgeries (scope & hardware removal from a brake repaired 3 years ago) and a bone spur shaved from the top of my foot. Here is the break-down of the two options: Grove Creek: Facility - $2400 Anesthesia - $1300 Surgeon - $2400 Total: $6100 ($2000 for me, $4100 for my insurance) Orem Community Hospital: Facility - $11200 Anesthesia - $3000 Surgeon - $2400 Total: $16600 ($5000 for me, $11600 for my insurance) Grove Creek's financial department was great to get me their estimates ahead of time, the contact information for the anesthesia billing, and to send me a form that verified that they would only be charging me for what I would pay if they were in network with my insurance. My surgery went well and the quality of the care at the surgery center was very good even with the challenges of having a surgery during COVID 19 and all of the extra restrictions in place. I saw the Explanation of Benefits come across my insurance company's website and was a little shocked to see the total ($40K+). I called just to verify that they would still be charging me the in network benefit and they said not to be shocked by the EOB because it didn't have that credit adjustment yet. When I got the bill in the mail, it was just a little higher than they had estimated ($870 instead of the estimated $600 for my portion of the bill). My surgery was a little more complicated than expected so I wasn't too surprised to see the increase. After my experience, I would definitely choose Grove Creek Surgery Center again. As you can see from my experience, it is worth taking the time to compare the pricing of various options and getting a statement ahead of time that they will only charge you in-network (insurance discounted) pricing if they are out of network for you. It's also important to realize that the surgery center does not do the billing for the anesthesiologist. The facility, surgeon & anesthesiologist are all separate companies and you will need to find out the cost for each of them as well as whether they are in-network for your insurance. For me, the facility was the only one out of network. The other two were in network. I hope my experience is helpful for you!"

"Staff are friendly and competent. Be aware that the surgery center will likely force you to pay cash upfront for services with the promise that you will be reimbursed AFTER insurance/co-insurance/Health Savings Agreement (HSA), etc pay them. This process is LENGTHY and not because insurance/co-insurance/HSA, etc. takes long to pay. It is more a very slow workflow issue within the billing department at Grove Creek itself. Do not expect to get full reimbursement in a timely fashion. I received surgery in December 2022 and it is Aug 2023 and I am still not 100% reimbursed."

"I have never left a public negative review in my life, but the billing department's process/procedures for the Surgery Center at Grove Creek are a disaster. I have been calling once a week for 2 months trying to obtain a refund from an overpayment for a surgery 5 months ago. Have been told multiple times that someone will call me back and provide an update and they never do. I always have to call back in. Today I was just told that the refund request is going to the CEO for approval. This isn't some unusual or out of the ordinary situation. My insurance paid more of the bill than originally anticipated they would pay after it was submitted to them, and grove creek simply needs to refund me the difference between what they had me pay them upfront and what I actually owed after insurance made payment. Hours have been waisted due to their poor refund procedures and lack of follow up."

"I was seen at this facility on two separate occasions due to an auto accident at the recommendation of my doctor. I, like many others was assured that even though this facility was out of network, that I would not pay any more going to this facility than if I went to an in network facility. I was told this by my doctor, and by several people at this facility when verifying my insurance before the visits, while I was at the visits etc. When I got to the facility for the surgery they have you sign a bunch of consent forms, one of them being a form that apparently says that I am aware that I am at an out of network with the facility and I am aware of the facility fees, but my estimated portion is $122 per visit. I did not read the fine print(my mistake), but was expecting to have to pay around $250 for the two visits. When I get told that they honor the in network rates, I trusted them that they would do so. I later got a bill for close to $3,200. I called and spoke to someone in billing who let me know that they did write off the difference between what my insurance would have paid if they were in network. So the difference between the 60% insurance paid and the 85% they would have paid in network. But there is no insurance discount. I bill insurance for a living, insurance will NEVER show an insurance write off with an out of network insurance. After arguing with the billing person, I spoke with the manager who told me the same thing and that there is nothing they can do. I then turned it over to my attorney who talked with the manager and then the facility administrator and he got nowhere with them either. My attorney then requested a lien, which was denied due to my never mentioning a lien before either surgery. If I had known that my portion was going to be $3,200 I would have asked about a lien, but I was expecting $250. Now, I am stuck with a $3,200 bill because I trusted this facility to do as they had said they would. Don’t make the same mistake I did. Go to an in network facility."

"The surgery and care I received at this facility was great, but the billing has been a complete nightmare. Even though the center is out of network, I was ASSURED that I would be billed as though the center was in network. I called to confirm this twice before surgery as well as the day of surgery. I received a bill for $11k. I didn't account for the anesthesiologist also being out of network which also hurt financially. After spending HOURS on the phone with my insurance company, there's no actual way to actually determine what the amount I owe is. And now, I have paid almost $1000 and was told today by my insurance that I shouldn't have paid anything. It feels like I've been a victim of a scam. This has been such a headache to deal with and I'm frustrated that I didn't follow my instinct. I do not recommend this surgery center due to their shady billing methods and false promises. I have wasted so many hours trying to sort this out and if I could do it all over again, I simply would have gone to a facility that's ACTUALLY in network. Having surgery here was a huge financial mistake."
