"if i could give 0 stars i would. went there for 10 months, three of my friends got sa-ed by staff, and me and several other girls were harassed by one who is now on bail awaiting trial. they did absolutely nothing to protect us from this. underwent extreme emotional abuse and ended up having to transer to a rehab after using for the entirety of my time there. left covered in bruises from being put in holds by staff for reasons like having to go to the bathroom during class. i've never been worse than i was while there."
"I used to be a student here. I am now an aspiring LCSW but no thanks to heritage. They have barely any approach to therapy that works. There are lots of things they let the students get away with. Every single person I know that I went to this place has relapsed as I have experienced first hand that the treatment provided here is not effective in any way. There are too many privileges that the program offers that the students do take for granted which is a fault on the academy for providing these privileges. Students can easily run away from this place. While I was here I only became worse visiting behavioral hospitals three times and in the process cutting my arm up with a shard of glass that slid under the nose of the staff and I still have those scars today. They believe that the medication will help which is only half the battle. They provide no encouragement/direction to open up about what you have done in the past to get an idea of how to help you. The best thing that this place did for me was send me to another facility called Liahona Academy as it was there my life changed. I will say that most of the staff there are very good people who are extremely nice minus a few as there are sexual assault allegations against some male staff who are 21 years or older."
"What is residential treatment like? Long-term residential treatment is an immersive learning experience. Many students at The Heritage Community arrive under some incredibly challenging circumstances to a new environment with 24/7 supervision, a no drug & alcohol policy, roommates, housemates, new rules, new expectations, new adult mentors, new classes, new teachers, and at least one assigned therapist. Every person brings their own unique background and looks for where they can fit in The Heritage Community. There are some artistic kids and talented singers who come through and have their own opinion on the best way to keep themselves entertained. There are positive and negative behaviors choosing between the good and bad is a challenge for many of the people on the campus. What is it like as a youth residential treatment coach? The strong coaches and mentors who work in the Elevate Academy are lightning rods of support and strength. A coach spends time with the challenges of youth, takes time, and works with the youth to find solutions. When has life gotten better at The Heritage Community? Just the other day, a kid learned how to ride a bike for the first time in their life."
"For years I have stayed silent about the treatment I endured at Heritage School/Treatment Center located in Utah County on the border of Provo & Orem. I was sent there by the State Of Illinois when I was 13 years old being separated from my brother and sister. My arrival there was confusing and frustrating due to the fact I was just ripped away from my siblings. I was closed off toward any type of treatment offered by the program. I had 3 different therapist during my stay there , and I appreciate them all. For years I ran away and caused so much drama "I thought they'd give up on me". I went through so much abuse as a child that I couldn't trust anymore or anyone. Eventually I was kicked out of Heritage and was sent to a all boys school in Iowa. I eventually Graduated from high school a day there shortly after landed in Prison. Much of my adult life I was a number list in some prison somewhere in the middle of nowhere. I have now put all that behind d me I'm a father of 6 amazing kids, and I'm a husband to someone I love. I wish I could have gotten the picture back when everyone was trying to teach me back then. So many years I chose to be bitter or put on an image or personna that really wasn't whom I truly intended to be. Hating the world only licks you away from the you we really are deep inside. I could have stopped being a victim and chose to live my life. I look at my kids every day and thank God I allowed myself to break the chain and strangely I remember all those groups and individual therapy sessions "the ones my therapist didn't think I got"and it's because of their generosity I was finally able to change my life. We are ready when we are ready "just don't let it be when it's to late"."
