"Let me begin by saying in this nurses/techs need to be in their own category of excellence, seperate and apart from the facilities and doctors. I woke up covered in ants, when i say covered I mean any one place you fixed your eyes on my bed, desk, or walls, you could spot 6+ without searching. It took 12 hours to resolve because maintenance was busy putting new window tint in the hallways. I am a 70% disabled veteran on TDIU with full VA benefits and regardless of how many times I explained this, they still kept me down as self-pay and it's pretty obvioius my level of care from the phsyc was scaled to the assumption no one was getting paid. The physc never reached out to my regular VA doctor at the sherman clinic and kept trying to prescribe me new drugs, to which i said no over and over again, please call my doctor, get my records, and start me back where I was, I'm not here to experiment with whatever drug gives you kickbacks this week. I was out of his office within seconds of refusing new meds each time. I was taken off of my emergency detention order after two days, and then put back on after refusing new meds. I can easily see how people can get trapped in places like this. There was so much more: slime in shower drains, my critical weight loss wasn't addressed until an hour before I discharged I'm assuming because I was on self-pay. I'm working with my regular VA care team to file formal complaints with the IG. The administrators of this facility should call Symbios a few blocks away and ask how mistreating veterans worked out for them, they are no longer able to treat vets for much less than I what I saw here."

"If you absolutely HAVE to go inpatient, this is definitely the place to do it! Every last staff member was fantastic and genuinely seemed to care about the patients. Dr. Balch was so fantastic that I'm even considering making him my PCP! The food, believe it or not, was wonderful! And these places are known for terrible food, so this was a very pleasant surprise! Over all, It's a pretty great place for those who need it. My only complaint is that the unit doesn't really provide medical care. Medically, I was completely neglected, and I have several MAJOR disabilities and illnesses. So physically, it was beyond uncomfortable; it was downright torture. I was denied heating pads, ace bandages, all medications... even Tylenol! I also couldn't bathe because I'm disabled and there were no showers to accommodate me. I was told that there was a shower, but it was upstairs somewhere off of the unit and that no staff would be available to "waste their time" taking me to bathe. I mean, really? It's a HOSPITAL for cryin' out loud!!! However...... I really encourage anyone who needs help to go there. It's truly the best behavioral unit I've ever seen, which is saying a lot! P.S. While the unit itself is great, you've got to go through the ER to get there, and DEAR GOD the psych nurses there......watch out! The most condescending, patronizing, argumentative people I have ever come across. And I was a nurse! You'd think they would at least have empathy, if not sympathy and compassion, for their patients... Not an ounce. So take a deep breath and don't bonk 'em in the nose- even though you'll really, really want to!"

"My sister, who is in a nursing facility, was at TMC Behavioral Center for a few days and I was skeptical because of her past experiences. Now I have to say I am very impressed with the care given to her during her stay. My sister said the staff were all kind and caring and the food was very good. She felt like she was well cared for."

"The screening to be admitted was quite thorough. The nurses were excellent. The techs were wonderful. Having access to markers and coloring pages was wonderful. Use of the gym was helpful. The fellow who led group was great. We did lots of good educational activities, and he could draw you out in process group. The other patients and I bonded and truly cared about each other. The food was excellent and the coffee was fabulous!!"

"The best thing was the food was good except for 2 meals. I believe the group therapy was very helpful. The nurses were excellent. I can’t say the same thing for the doctor or social worker. First meeting with the doctor. He gave me about 2 minutes of his precious time. He lied to me. He told me was getting out on Wed and he switched it to Friday. He said the social worker was the one who decided when I got out. I can’t tell you how rude he is. I would never ever recommend him or social worker. The person who gave me the exit interview. She was nice and supportive. Because of him I would never recommend to anyone who asked how we were treated. What adult goes to bed at 9:00 pm. That’s ridiculous. For what it’s worth that’s my opinion. Thank you."
