"My son was in there and said the staff was really nice and treated him great. They always made sure he was full and let him make calls. When I talked with the staff they were always pleasant to talk to and could answer any questions I had. The place seemed really good for what my son needed."

"HIGHLANDS IS NOT THE ANSWER. This place is a WRECK. It has been almost a year since my experience at highlands, and I am still going to intensive therapy for my experiences in this HORRIBLE facility. I can say with complete certainty I came out of Highlands 10000% worse than when I went in. I entered into the children’s part of the facility at the age of 15. Not only are the staff wretched to the patients, but threaten to push other kids discharge dates back, up to TWO MONTHS for any sort of disobedience, which is HIGHLY illegal. Some of my fellow patients had told me they had been in highlands for weeks and weeks, when Highlands only has the legal rights to keep anyone there against their will for 5 days. There has been many accounts of dangerous med prescriptions including myself, being that I am allergic to Zoloft and was put on double the amount of a normal dosage. They also have absolutely no idea how to help people in need. Instead of offering actual psychological help, we were often forced to stay outside of our rooms and spend time in the hallways on the floor. The hallways in which our rooms would be locked up, would frequently get FILLED with trash, and we were given nothing to do resulting in 10-18 hours of staring at the ceilings in a filthy hallway with horrible caretaking. Patients were neglected food as discipline, given dangerous dosages of strong medication, and not to mention the lack in help from staff as far as other patients. Being that it is a MENTAL HOSPITAL, so obviously there are people with MENTAL PROBLEMS, many patients would hide STRONG meds given to them and pressure other patients into taking them in dangerous ways such as snorting. The fact things like this can go unnoticed in a place meant to help people in need is OUTRAGEOUS. I have never been more scared for my life than in this facility. Bottom line is this place should be SHUT DOWN, and SUED for the inhuman care."

"I received outstanding care during a crisis here. They treated me with dignity and respect. This hospital saved my life and I can’t thank them enough for being there for me during this difficult time. I wanted to give a special shoutout to my BHT’s Maeve, Krisha, Bibi, and Carlos for being absolutely wonderful to me. My therapists and Bri and my nurses especially Glenda for going above and beyond. You guys rock and I’m thankful to be on a good path following my discharge."

"The staff did hardly anything didn't stop me or anyone self harming (watched people scratch constantly, people cut themselves with staples from tea bags the staples were never taken, had to hold my hand behind people's heads so they wouldn't slam their heads into walls), eating disorders weren't monitored in my six days there someone got sent to the er twice from malnutrition and dehydration because she hadn't eaten since she got there. Felt like the staff had given up on getting us better and were just caging us. Spent over 11 hours trying to get admitted. Drawings all over the walls. Some of the staff were incredible though. They also didn't let me call home or let my parents call me for the first three days and I self harmed so many times because of thag"

"The staff is incredibly caring. Unfortunately, the management isn't, and they have ZERO understanding of therapy and psychology. The doctor dosed me with a dangerous med and then increased the dosage after it was well documented as having bad effects. He then discharged me for not complying with his dangerous medical treatment. DO NOT EVER SEND SOMEONE HERE. YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE HELP. although it's a fun summer camp, and the BHTs are ducking amazing."
