"DO NOT GO HERE! If you are considering going to Highlands Dentists (even for routine cleaning) DO NOT. Please see the many 0-2 star reviews below. They are spot on. During both of my visits Dr. Lewis was extremely aggressive in his cleaning. I have never experienced as much pain for a routine cleaning in my life. After receiving my bill I noticed a $75 dollar charge for ‘Hygenine Education’. I received nothing that could be construed as education. I called the office and they said not to worry as this was only charged to my insurance provider. Additionally, he recommended I meet with a Periodontist as it appeared my gums were receding. I was urged to get surgery for gum recession in the next month or face irreversible impacts. With ‘great’ insurance, this would have still cost me $6500 out of pocket. I decided to seek a second opinion. At the second dentist I was immediately told I did not need surgery and that we could re-evaluate in 6 months. I asked them to provide pricing for the surgery just to see if there was any difference and turns out it would have been 1/2 the price. Also, while in the office lobby, two separate patients were expressing concerns over their bills with the office administrator. One was for $900 out of pocket and the other for $12k! This place UPSELLS and OVER CHARGES across the board. Finally, I’ve asked for my dental records to be sent to 3X and each time they say they’ll send them right over. Once again, if you care about your sanity, dental health, pocket book, etc. DO NOT GO HERE."

"Looks like many folks are having similar experiences of being told they need dental work which is in fact not needed, and wouldn’t you know, not covered by dental insurance. I went in fully anticipating needing an implant (which is expensive) and received an estimate for more than $22,000 of which insurance would cover $375. Yes - you read that correctly. I received a second opinion and was told the treatment plan recommended should be “a last resort by a specialist.” I would recommend to all filing a complaint with the Colorado’s Department of Regulatory Affairs (DORA). What this office is doing is unethical and shameful."

"My experience with Highlands dentists has been horrible. I went in, received a deep cleaning, and paid my bills. Months later I started getting notices from collections agencies. I looked into it and they had not yet resolved the insurance claim - it took me calling repeatedly day after day, and physically going in to the office in order to get them to actually communicate with my insurance to resolve the claim. All the while they had made up another bill out of nowhere, failed to notify me about it, and just sent it straight to collections. After repeatedly calling and calling, they just decided to drop the (probably made up?) extra charges. After some googling I realized Dr. Lewis has gone by at least 3 different names in the past - not a good sign. I have tried to get them to email my records to me so I can share them with a new dentist and it is the same story. They keep promising "sure we will do that" "sure I'll do it by the end of the day" "we'll get to it within the hour" and nothing. Their office is useless and a scam. Go somewhere else."

"AVOID. I had an awful experience here and didn’t do my due diligence because afterwards I looked here and there are multiple reviews describing almost exactly the same experience I had. I went in for a new patient appt and was not even given a cleaning. During the exam the doctor told me I needed to come in for an $1000+ deep cleaning. I came back for that appointment and in the last five minutes while I’m fully numb after having been there for hours- he tells me I need THREE CROWNS. I am in my 30s and have never needed this type of work. I was shocked and looked into getting a second opinion. I met with another dentist and I know there is an area that needs attention and she recommended a more conservative approach much more aligned with my experience and expectations."

"I went in for an emergency exam, which I was able to schedule for the next day. My intake as a first time patient was easy, parking was painless & plentiful, and I was taken back promptly at my appointment time. The front desk staff, assistants, and Dr. Shonts herself are all very friendly and accomodating. I never felt rushed, ignored, or like an inconvenience. The bedside manner here is next level and ALL of my questions were addressed thoroughly & transparently. I felt very taken care of and would recommend this office to anyone, but ESPECIALLY to those who are uncomfortable in a dental chair or might be jaded by the dental industry."
