"The 2023 annular solar eclipse on Saturday October 14 was a unique experience and deserved to be observed intimately away from the teeming crowds at Canyonlands and other Utah National Parks. So I donned my cowboy hat and befriended Mountain Joe and his beautiful wrangler horses for the day at 7800ft. And boy what an amazing experience it was. We probably had the most personal experience of the eclipse in all of Utah. Bracing the cold mountain breeze we trotted through the quiet solitude of Ponderosa pines, with the only other evidence of activity being the echos of our own voices, scurrying deer, open grazing cattle and the sweet melody of birds chirping away in the distance. With fall colors blooming against the backdrop of the snow-capped peaks of the La Sal range, we quietly watched the eclipse unfold, marveling at the rare “ring of fire” created as the moon passed between the Sun and the Earth until the next one in 2039. God is Great."

"We loved our ride with Mountain Joe! It was practically a private ride (just one other rider with us) and we got to go all throughout the mountain trail. It was quite a cold day and there was snow and ice on the trail but we still got to gallop some when it was safe to. Highly recommended!"

"My adventure partner & I fortunately stumbled across Mt. Joe's in the serene La Sal Mts SE of Moab. As more experienced riders, we hope for opportunities that offer more than nose-tail trails and once Joe felt comfortable he let us trot and gallop when safe. Bonus to ride through ponderosa pines in cooler temps, on well-trained, sweet horses with Joe's calm & delightful demeanor. His knowledge of and care for his horses was evident in their demeanor as well."

"Refreshing lower daily temperature due to ranch & shady forest ride being at 1,000+ higher elevation than Moab. Mt Joe’s horses are the well trained & very easy to ride. The two hour National Forest trail route we took was great seeing turkey’s, free range cattle & deer on our ride."
