Road To Hana Mile Marker Zero (Route 360)

"Very pretty drive but not for the weak stomach or the large vehicle. A lot of switchbacks, one way bridges and blind turns. Maybe recommend a tour? But the scenery, waterfalls and the black sand beach on its own were amazing!"

"So we started our drive at 7:30 We bought a guided a tour on line “ Gypsy tour” something like that! I highly recommended getting a tour! He told us where to stop and maybe you can pass on that one. The timing was perfect! I ‘d say maybe make a reservation at MAMA’s fish house far ahead of time. We couldn’t get in so we were lucky to sit at the bar early. Fresh fish. I didn’t love the crab cake appetizer. Very small . No taste,. My husband had octopus which he liked. Fish for dinner Great atmosphere. Bartenders were awesome r!"

"This was a great view of Hawaii! I loved the entire trip. Make sure to plan ahead by reading about the drive. There’s too much to see. Stop at Halfway to Hana for banana bread and the Hana Farms Roadside Stand for bathrooms, pizza and other goods. Enjoy!"

"The drive is great but consider splitting it into two days by staying in Hana. There’s so much stuff to see along the way and if you’re the driver you’ll be exhausted by the time you get to Hana. It’s simply impossible to truly experience this in a day. If you are doing it in one day I’d recommend not stopping at the first few attractions except for maybe the garden of eden if you like feeding birds or are fond of plants. The good stuff is towards the middle/end of the road! See: Nahiku Road, Red Sand Beach, Black Sand Beach, Banana Bread, 7 Sacred Ponds. In terms of when to leave, to avoid crowds get past Kahului by 7am if you’re there for a day or past noon if you’re there for two+"

"This iconic drive is filled with many twists and turns, narrow bridges, and massive amounts of the most beautiful scenery you will ever see. As this beautiful drive started out I had prepared myself for an epic winding road dangling off of cliffs, and onto jagged rocks below. Obviously what we had experienced was much different. On a side note I would like to explain, my knowledge of Hana is from hearing stories of my dad driving the road to Hana before it was fully paved with signs everywhere in only 3 hours (it took me double that amount of time). The roads are all paved, yes they are narrow and one lane at times, but pretty smooth transitions. It is frustrating to ride behind the tourist riding their break the whole ride, but if you can get around them you are in for a peaceful drive. There are so many spots to stop at, and hidden spots that are worth fighting for a parking space, & getting out of your car to see. Overall the drive is beautiful and definitely worth the day of travel to see. Helpful hints: if there is a line of cars behind you and no one in front of you pull off and let them pass. When you stop to get out make sure you are not blocking the road. Some corners are tighter than others. If you made a mistake throw up a shocka to apologize. Honk your horn before turning on a one lane corner to warn cars on the other side. Have fun, be safe! Aloha."
