"We spent a few hours on a July afternoon here, swimming snorkeling and enjoying ourselves. Overall it's a nice beach, the snorkeling is reasonably ok. When we were here the river was not flowing so the amount of have was ok but only once you were out about halfway. The rocks along the northern edge were the most interesting and clearest water. During our visit there were almost no waves and the ones coming in were coming into the south and breaking against those rocks. As a result that wall has much more sediment and was harder to control. There is a small boat wrecked in the middle and it housed more fish. We identified around a dozen species including needlefish, butterfly, wrasse, unicornfish and others. There was also a large (like a 100ish?) school of fish near the shore that we never did identify. There was also a well maintained portapotty in the parking lot, parking for 6 cars. The main negative outside of the murkiness of the water is the thorns from the trees. While the trees provide some shade, wear some good shoes getting to them and back to water. I had some softer soled shoes and ended up picking out tens of thorns afterwards."

"Scenic beach, but not a place to swim or surf. Strong undertow and jagged rocks at the water line. Has a restroom and picnic area at the park."

"Also known as Dixie Maru Beach, Kapukahehu is a small, sheltered cove with protected waters that make it a popular swimming spot for families and locals. There are no facilities at this beach. It was a bit rough snorkeling but I was able to locate a boat wreck, with a sizable anchor at the mouth of the bay. It is always exciting to find things like that. The dried red clay as you come into the beach is interesting."

"Great beach for kids, but make sure they wear shoes to get in and watch for acia thorns. Beautiful sunset and fun place to swim and play."
