"Earlier today I went into the Ross store on Los Altos in Sparks to spend some of my birthday money. I spent about an hour in the store and took my purchases to the counter. When the young girl rang me up my total was $48.36 so I handed the cashier a $50 bill. She looked at the bill perplexed and ran it through a scanner. The scanner wasn't reading the bill. I anticipated she would pick up the bill and examine it as is customary with all cash purchases. She did not instead she continued to try and scan the bill. At this point another young girl comes up to the register and takes the $50 bill and scans it through the machine. The machine is still not reading the bill. Now I know what you are thinking. Maybe the bill was a fake. I have worked in customer service for over 20 years and one thing that all places accepting cash teach all their employees is how and what to check for in counterfeit bills. You feel the texture, you look for the strip up the bill indicating "USA and the amount", you mark the bill with a counterfeit pen and you check for a water mark matching the face on the bill. Neither of these young girls looked for any of these items. Instead they asked me if I had another bill. I let them know I didn't. Then the "manager" a girl no more than 23 years old told me she could not take my bill. She did not check the bill itself instead she told me she could not take it because the machine was not reading it. I asked her if there was anyone I could speak to and she told me she was the only manager on a busy Saturday. I asked if she could check the bill herself then since she was the manager. Her response was she could not, she could only take bills that were scanned. I took my money and I left the store. I will never go to Ross again. I am going to make sure all my friends and family members are aware that Ross will not accept cash and to avoid them at all cost. If someone who is a "manager" doesn't even know how to check a bill and won't accept it unless a machine is functioning then put world has bigger problems than checking a $50 bill to see if it is real. I would understand if this was a self check out and the machine did not accept my money. Then you pick a different form of payment. These are two human beings that do not know what to do with a $50 bill. I am sorry Ross but unfortunately you have lost quite a bit of business."
