"I would give zero stars if I could. I've had an appointment scheduled for two weeks only for Stephanie to cancel it, saying they don't accept state insurance week after the fact. Dr. Julie and The Dental Specialist staff practice discriminatory practices not aligned within the community."

"Two days ago I had a root canal with Dr Royal for a calcified tooth. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the procedure was easy and completely pain free. Two days later I haven't felt even the slightest discomfort. The assistant also did an exceptional job explaining exactly what was going to happen and what I could expect. Both Dr Royal and his assistant have 20+ years of experience. I got in right away for a consult but it did take a couple months to get an appointment for the root canal itself. I can't complain--my discomfort beforehand was minimal so I don't mind waiting. I've heard they can get people in much faster if they're in more pain than I was. All in all an easy experience, much to my surprise. Root canals get a worse reputation than they deserve. Highly recommend"

"Dr. Davis at the Dental Specialists acted incredibly unprofessional and raised our concern over his ethics. He offers a consult plus wisdom teeth extraction on the same visit which was convenient for us. Our daughter suffers from anxiety and had prepped herself for the appointment. In January 2022 we arrived and after taking x-rays and conducting an exam he concluded the procedure could not be preformed that day because she had 2 risk factors, 1. The lower jaw nerve being too close to the teeth and 2. creating a hole in the sinus cavity based on her anatomy. He wanted a nurse anesthetist in the room so he could focus on the delicate operation. The first available appointment was 2 months later in March. Our daughter prepped herself again for the procedure. On the day of the appointment the office called twice asking us to come in earlier than our 11:30 time. I explained that the nurse instructed me to give our daughter her meds 3 hours prior to the procedure (she needs them morning and night). After the second call we were told the procedure was cancelled. We insisted on talking to the Dr. Davis. He said there was too much miscommunication and he needed to cancel and reschedule at the end of May. We called Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical Consultants and were able to get a consultation at the end of March in the Wayzata Office. I did not share our experience with Dr. Davis. At the consultation Dr. Sundick said “This is easy, a piece of cake.” I asked if she had any risk factors like being the nerve being too close or creating a hole in the sinus cavity. He said “If she was 40 maybe, but no this is a standard procedure.” He used the x-rays sent over by the Dental Specialists. They also never use a nurse anesthetist for this procedure. Our daughter’s wisdom teeth removal was scheduled for two weeks after the consult. It was done quickly with no problem; she was sent home and recovered well with no complications. Dr. Sundick and the staff at Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical Consultants in Wayzata were incredibly professional, kind, and supportive. In addition, the cost of the procedure was half of what Dr. Davis at The Dental Specialists in Woodbury had charged! This was an unfortunate experience that raises some ethical and professional questions. We feel extremely fortunate Dr. Davis did not perform the procedure given his unprofessional advice and behavior."

"I was referred to Dr. Royal by my regular dentist for 2 possible root canal procedures. Of course I never even looked at reviews of this place until the day of. With some mixed reviews, I sat in the lobby a little worried about how my visit may go. I was taken back by Laurie and everything went smooth. Dr. Royal seems nice, didn’t talk much, which is fine by me. Procedure was exceptional! I didn’t even feel the Novocain injection! That part usually scares me the most. He gave me the option of doing one root canal and coming back for the second. I clench my jaw at night and my smile has changed due to my tooth. But Dr. Royal did something and now my smile is back to what it was before I had all these issues. I didn’t even need to take any NSAIDs. (My appointment was just yesterday morning). I did have to pay about $250 after the procedure even though I thought I had good insurance. I have another appointment in 3 weeks, will update if there are billing issues or any other issues that arise!"

"As someone who struggles with dental anxiety, I would absolutely recommend Dr Royal. Him and his assistant Laurie made the root canal process as easy as possible, and helped do their best to keep me calm and feeling safe. They made everything as painless as possible and made sure to really explain everything to me and let me know more in-depth what my options were. Laurie made sure to find something good for me to focus on (my cat) by asking a few questions and keep my mind in a better place as the procedure began. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. 10/10 would recommend."
