"Finally drove down this unpaved road! Always wanted to know what was down the road, thought it might take me to the border. I did end up taking some turns and could see the wall in the distance. There's tons to explore but I played it safe and stuck to the main roads. Getting the free permit was pretty easy, just registered my vehicle and watched a safety video about 13 minutes long. Bring plenty of water and a full tank of gas. I wouldn't recommend it for smaller cars, only trucks or Jeeps or ATVs. Permit not required to be in the parking lot, I'm not sure what the rules are for camping there but there are three camp spaces and a lovely view (no bathrooms or fire pits or water tho, this is strictly for boondockers)."

"The side closest to Yuma is super bumpy, in the annoying kind of way. It's probably smoother to take the trails closer to the mountains. You can spend days out here. Be aware that the USA border is right there south of the range, so watch out for drunken, fast-food fueled, "patriots". I'd recommend using a trail tracking tool if you get off the path here. Trails change quite a bit season to season, and some things that look easy might not be."

"Close to town and quiet at night. you need a permit you can get online. Daytimes are busy with off road vehicles and it can get very dusty. Only one area to camp overnight and its right when you drive in."
