Jay Schmauch, DO

"This doctor helped diagnose me and prescribe my medication; I saw him for 6 years. He voiced his disapproval of me getting married and being religious. When I wanted to stop a medication, he told me that was foolish but then told me I could come off within one week if I really wanted to; I now know it should be at least a several week process. When I came back to him needing to go back on meds, he said he told me so. This doctor did not make me feel heard or respected."

"The only good thing he did for me was write my perscription but thankfully now I have a doctor that actually cares! Dr. Schmauch was the most unaware and condescending doctor I've ever dealt with. I stayed with him for a long time simply because I only had to see him about once year. He never asked me how I was, never bothered to get to know me, he droned on for our whole appointment about his college days or some historic bull, he would ask me questions then answer them himself and then spin all of my words to match his diagnosis. Don't reccomend at all, especially if your a woman...super creepy vibes!"

"My first experience with his office staff did not fill me with warm fuzzes but rather question why I was refereed to this person. The first receptionist was preoccupied else where mentally (almost like a bubble gum chewing, hair twisting air head). I explained I still needed to fill out the medication portion of the questionnaire, she insisted it was all filled out. Then came the day and time of the appointment. I was there prior to the appointment (filled out his questionnaires that were personal and irrelevant to my referral). Asked the second receptionist about Dr. Schmauch, where he went to school his back ground, and the like, her statement was "I have only worked for him as a Psychiatrist". She had no idea where he went to school, what his beliefs in practice were nothing, she was clueless (as to that information). We waited an hour. no one let us know that he was running late, or that the Dr. had decided not to see us nothing. We thought that the whole situation was unprofessional, from the intrusive irreverent questionnaires, to the office staff and the Dr. not showing or the office staff not letting us know as to the Dr. running late. I got a message in my e-mail as follows; "A summary of your recent visit on 09/12/2018 at Riverbend Psychiatry is now available. These visit notes may include important information on follow-up care, medicines, diagnosis and more. We know it can be hard to remember everything your provider says during a visit. So we hope you take a few minutes to view these notes." I ask really, you didn't see me, speak with me, converse with me, have any personal interaction with me, so what kind of report cam you write, something off the questionnaires, what the staff saw, the staff and my interaction and then you want a separate fee for that. I would summarize that Jay D. Schumauch is more interested in obtaining the data off the questionnaire than anything else. I would not recommend this person at all in any capacity, what so ever. There should be the ability to post zero stars or lower."

"Dr. Schmauch has been the first Psychiatrist that didn't talk down to me. I am not a victim of my life, I cannot blame anyone for the way my life has gone and Dr. Schmauch has literally met me where I am at on my journey in life. I have a lot of stress in my life and responsibility, he has helped by giving me tips for dealing with my stress and anxiety. I was not looking for someone to coddle me and enable me. I want someone to give me the cold hard facts of life so I could build a bridge to get over it, do the right thing."

"I am a former patient of Dr. Schmauch. I was referred to him when Dr. Howard Ashby retired in the late 2000's. He was decent and good for the first couple of years. After that, he was only interested in how the medications work and fixated about my weight, which partially caused my 30 pounds weight gain, due to the stress. After finding out that the doctors were leaving Sacred Heart, he was supposed to move to the Schade Towers. I went there one day a couple of weeks after my cousin passed away and trying to find his office, the people there didn't know what I was talking about and they said that he didn't move there. My mom called the other doctors that he practiced with and they told her that he moved clear up to this location. I decided that I was done seeing him as my psychiatrist and moved on to another psychiatrist, near my workplace. My current psychiatrist is caring and not fixated on the medication. In fact, my current psychiatrist took me off one of my medications and I have been feeling a lot better, instead of being overmedicated. Dr. Schmauch is definitely not recommended as a psychiatrist, unless you want to be overmedicated and listen to him about how the medication works, instead of listening to your problems."
