"We applied to rent a property they had listed through their website. We looked at the property and the agent told us she had a few more people to show the place to that day, but that we looked the best on paper and if selected would proceed to the background check phase. We completed our background checks and passed the following business day. After not hearing anything for a couple days, we followed up and were told they were accepting additional applications through the week and would be informed of the decision the following Monday. This was never discussed with us before we paid for our background checks. We were led to believe that if we were asked to complete the background check that we were the ones selected to rent as long as the background checks came back clean. I called the office and they told me that’s how they usually do it, but since this property is owned by someone else, that is what the owner requested. Again, this was never disclosed to us up front. Ownership is irrelevant, this was a property they were representing and they had misleading communications and business processes."
