"Horrible experience today. In October I purchased dog dishes as a gift. Well, so did someone else so I took them back for a refund. I thought I forgot my receipt (later found it in a different part of my purse). Anyway, the cashier said she could give me a gift card and I was fine with that as I shop there often (or I did). She didn't give me a card. She gave me a receipt which said "New Merchandise Credit" so I thought that was what she meant by "card". Today, I remembered I had that in my purse and drove all the way to the store to use it. As I was about to be checked out the cashier asked for the "gift card". I explained the situation and told her the lady had told me this is what I needed to use. Next thing the mgr. comes over and calls Marshalls headquarters, I assume to find out what to do. I had now been standing there for almost half an hour. I've worked retail so I'm usually very patient. He comes back and says this cannot be used. I'm 70 years old for goodness sake and by the way the original cashier was elderly, short lady with curly white hair. How do I or they know she didn't keep said card for herself? I went out and got in my car and called their office again, put on hold for 20 some minutes and they disconnected me. Called them back twice with same results!! Last girl put me on hold to get a "supervisor" then came back again 20 some minutes later saying, "hello, can you hear me" over and over again. I knew what was goin on!!! So now it's to the BBB and a lawsuit. IT'S THE PRINCIPLE OF THE THING and all for $21.61!!!!!!!! Oh, and by the way in the past few months I have spent a few hundred dollars in the store Christmas shopping. Now, I'm going to RETURN everything!!!"
