"Nice but little park. I was a bit disappointed that there was no monuments or plaques divulging information in regard to the story behind the whale carcass that the city exploded in the 70's. I thought because of the name and location, there would be some type of background info on the whole thing."

"I love this smaller park. With ~6 parking spots the park is never crowded, which is a huge plus for me. The park offers sandy river banks, and a nice wooded area to walk and enjoy. You get views of the bridge, dunes that are not accessible to ATVs, and the river. Admittedly the park is not a great place if you are trying to get some steps in, but if you are looking for some peace and beautiful views this place has you covered. Plenty of benches and picnic tables facing the water that are up in the trees protected from the wind. People do bring their dogs, but are good about cleaning up after them. There is a cute covered area with two picnic tables and a giant chair photo op. Overall it is a place I go to once a week with my kiddo"

"This is a common stop every trip to the beach. Has picnic tables , nature seating, small trash can. Nice view of the dunes on the other side of the bay. Don't forget to take a picture in the big chair."

"Visited this little park on a whim, it's a tribute to an incident in the 70's where a beached whale was stuffed with dynamite and the explosion did not go as planned. As for the park itself, there's a small parking lot that leads to a few trails along the river, a big chair, a nice covered picnic bench area and a great view of the Florence Bridge. Unfortunately there are no signs or plaques mentioning the story of the whale, nor is this the location the explosion took place. It would be nice if the city would add the story of this parks namesake."
