About the Business

McVay Rock State Recreation Site

McVay Rock State Recreation Site is a hidden gem located on Oceanview Drive in Brookings, Oregon, United States. This park offers a variety of outdoor activities such as surf fishing, clamming, whale watching, and beach walks. The park features a large lawn with a nine-hole disc golf course that overlooks the ocean.

Situated above the ocean, visitors can enjoy stunning views of the coastline and have close encounters with seabirds soaring above. A rocky path leads down to the beach, providing easy access to the shoreline. The park is currently in discussions with the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department and Curry County about the possibility of transferring management to the county.

Regardless of the outcome, amenities such as the pet exercise area, disc golf course, parking, and beach access will remain available to the public. The park was acquired in the 1970s for public beach access and is named after William R. McVay, an early settler in the area.

After gathering community feedback and meeting with county officials, a final report with potential options for the park's future will be released in November 2023. Whether you're looking for outdoor recreation or simply want to enjoy the natural beauty of the Oregon coast, McVay Rock State Recreation Site is the perfect destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

"What a great little find!!! A beautiful park with a dog run/area, a 9 hole Frisbee golf course, and access to a beautiful beach! Truly enjoyed our wall on the beach and all the beautiful sites to see. Waves were very high when we first arrived and were a little concerned about walking down the beach. Got lucky and was able to walk around the corner and a large beach area presented itself to us!!! Probably took over 100 photos between the 2 of us in an hour. Magical place and I look forward to going back during the spring or summer."

"Great little beach! Access is ok, just use caution on the rocky parts, no handrails. Great beach for rockhounding!"

"Tidepools; some rocks for rockhouding; steep path down to the beach; almost deserted"

"Great place to go to the beach with easy access. Slightly sloped path will get you right down to the water. While I was there I had the beach all to myself. Dog loved it and should be leashed. It was a wonderful day ☺️."

"Such a neat beach to go to! It has a beautiful off leash dog park right across the beach, and it has a nice disc golf area. The beach is a little rough to descend into on the rocks and gravel, but once you get down it’s so cool to explore the shore. There isn’t sand anywhere, but the entire shore is covered in tiny rocks. So cool!!"
