"Don't come here if you have complex trauma or if you don't want to be scammed. They only work with "good," simple, easily managed trauma therapy clients. Athena sent me a letter in the mail telling me she was dropping me as a client, even though we had a session scheduled for a few days later and I had never missed an appointment. She didn't feel it was necessary to approach me as someone deserving of dignity. When I talked to a friend of mine, who's a counselor at the Sexual Assault Resource Center about what Athena had done, she said that based on what she already knew about Athena, she wasn't surprised to hear of such unethical behavior. Athena also billed my insurance for procedures she didn't perform (which reimburse at a much higher rate than the therapy, which she did perform). I do insurance billing, so this stuck out to me as a potentially fraudulent billing practice. When I pointed it out to Athena, she referred me to her billing person and denied any wrongdoing. The thing is, the billing person would not know which codes to bill until Athena told them because they have no idea what procedures she performed. So, she must have told them to bill the higher-paying codes for procedures that she didn't perform. Athena has no business running a trauma center, or proclaiming herself an authority on the subject in places like Rwanda, where she has the potential to do far-reaching harm."

"I have been in therapy for approximately 7 years. My second clinician was a godsend, but unfortunately left the practice she was at, and I was referred to Erin at ITTC. I feel Erin has a very healing energy about her persona. She seems very educated, compassionate, and empathetic every single time I meet with her. She has always been available to meet me where I was at and regardless of where life takes me, she will be in my memory bank on a pedestal. Thank you for everything, Erin!"

"Many therapists have been in therapy themselves. Some have been abused, and are drawn to therapy because it gives them everything abusers thrive upon: confidentiality, authority, access to vulnerable people, and a cover of virtue. It’s a predator’s happy hunting ground. Mental Health clients are especially vulnerable because who is a jury gonna believe, a licensed “therapist” or a person with mental health issues? I was ambushed in the supposedly “safe” context of therapy because I didn’t enter into an intensive outpatient program... WHILE BATTLING COVID. Her treatment recommendation was misguided on a number of fronts, which I explained. Reasonable people can disagree. She is NOT a “reasonable person.” She unloaded a laundry list of “problems” which were easily addressed had she simply raised them as concerns. Then again, if she had been paying attention at all, there would have been no need to ask. She used these as a pretext to attack me IN THERAPY, and methodically set about attacking every single trigger I had revealed in therapy. Then left town on vacation. I explained that the situation was not unsalvageable, but for my own growth and well-being, I needed to advocate for myself and she needed to explain herself. Instead, I received a letter that I had been dropped as a client. It was petty, small, vindictive, unethical, unprofessional and absolutely abusive. Don’t walk, RUN from this place and don’t look back."

"i started with an intern and had to get switched to a new clinician when she left, no big deal. well i worked with the new therapist for a month and suddenly got a text yesterday morning from the front desk that she was no longer working there, with no explanation. my therapist didn’t reach out to me personally, no explanation given, just a generic text. it just seems extremely unprofessional to not have the therapist reach out to clients individually? not to mention this is a trauma center, it’s pretty safe to assume most clients have some sort of abandonment or attachment issues. even a phone call would’ve been better. this whole thing has just been really disheartening. editing to add: i was told someone would reach out to assign me to another therapist. it’s been over two weeks and that never happened, meaning i’ve effectively been dropped from trauma therapy with no reason or warning. DO NOT go here. they clearly don’t know what they’re doing."

"Not adequately trauma informed (expect many changes without warning, including rearranging furniture and drastic hair cuts, as well as being informed of therapist vacations or other cancellations on your way out the door of your last session before the several-weeks-long break), transphobic (“I don’t see gender” and yet somehow can’t get my stated pronouns right), and (temporarily) refused to bill my insurance even though they are in network. They required a card on file and charged me the full amount for 4 sessions without sending me a bill and without submitting claims to my insurance (although they claimed they did and that the claim was denied because the provider was out of network, my insurance company told me they never received any claims, that my provider is in network, and that I have out-of-network coverage anyway). After 2 days of arguing (at no point did they say anything reasonable like "Okay, if your insurance didn't even receive claims, something has gone super wrong. This is where I sent them to...", they just kept insisting that they had submitted them, I guess implying I was lying to them or my insurance company was lying to me??), I got them to agree to refund me and bill my insurance before billing me (turns out they had submitted claims to the wrong insurance company, apparently). Because I now have a balance on my account while I wait for them to bill insurance and no card on file (I cancelled my card so they couldn’t make more charges - I was unable to dispute the charge because I had given them permission to keep my card on file), my care there has been suspended until they receive full payment from me and/or my insurance. Zero communication from my therapist about any of this, just the office manager. I truly think they only stay in business because there is a shortage of providers offering the kind of care they specialize in, but specializing and being good or even qualified are very different things. Edit: Four months later, I contacted them for an update because my insurance company had still not received any claims. They told me they had decided to just write off the charges for administrative reasons rather than bill my insurance, my account balance is zero, and I'm able to return again in the future (the group I attended is not running during the pandemic, or at least that's what I've been told). I have to wonder if they were ever going to tell me about this decision if I hadn't asked. I'd been regularly checking in with my insurance company to make sure their claim processed properly, and I was wasting my time. I'm also surprised that they do not want me to pay my coinsurance amount, apparently. For some, that might be a positive. In this context of choosing to just not contact me after saying I could not return until I made payment, I don't really feel that way."
