Reviews
"Beautiful views but almost like climbing a ladder to get to the top. Very steep inclines but worth the trek."
"Gorgeous area. Trails are long. Bring lots of water. I hiked the summit. Do not underestimate. The hike is very very steep, same trail up and down, with a 2000 feet elevation change. The views were gorgeous and well worth the hike. Only recommend for people who are prepared."
"another fun one, definitely expect to scramble/climb a little and if you make it to the top and have time the path to kings mountain's peak is kind of nice too. photos don't do the path justice, this was in July, bring water if you do the whole loop. and I would recommend climbing up on the side the goes towards kings mountain and not down."
"After a year and a half after hearing about it, my wife and I finally were able to plan a hike up Elk Mountain in Tillamook. We had heard from many that it is a very challenging hike. And is that is an understatement! From the beginning of the trail it is a vertical climb, and there is really no let up from there. It destroyed my quads and challenged my lung capacity but I’m glad I climbed it. It gains 1900 feet of elevation over 1.5 miles, which averages a 24% vertical incline. But really there are areas that are straight up. It’s a definite challenge for dogs but ours took it on head first. There were two areas that we had to lift him up to make it over large “rock steps.” There are areas to take in beautiful views, even a view of Mount Hood. To access it you need to enter the Elk Creek Campground exit off of Highway 6. Coming from metro Portland, if you miss it (like we did) you will next pass Kings Mountain Trailhead and will need to turn around. We had no cell service in that area so download any road and trail maps ahead of time."
"Tough little hike in the Coast Range. Took us 4 hours, which surprised me a bit. Had to assist the pup quite a few times during the ascent, and the initial section of the descent is real tricky. I'd give it 5 stars if the weather/views was better this day (not the trail's fault)"
