Reviews
"This happened about a year ago, but seeing all of the other reviews I feel compelled to share. The psychiatrist I saw was really chill and easy to talk to. He and his MA (I think she's an MA) were very kind and good, active listeners. Until we disagreed. I have been misdiagnosed several times as bipolar. Every single time I'm put on mood stabilizers it wreaks havoc on my mental health and every aspect of my life. I told my psych about my concerns, fears, and negative experiences with mood stabilizers and he suggested I try just one more. If it didn't work, he wanted to try lithium. He went on to explain how Lithium isn't great and while it works, it can have adverse effects on the kidneys and how I would need to come in for yearly check ins for my kidneys if I was on it. He proceeded to list a few side effects, actually. I told him I don't think I'm bipolar, I had been diagnosed by my therapist w cPTSD among other things, but I'm not bipolar. I asked for an antidepressant. He straight up said no. He said if I'm wrong, the antidepressant can cause manic episodes if I'm bipolar. I asked if I could do a low dose anti depressant while on a mood stabilizer to maybe soften some of the effects. Still a no, he said that's not something that can be done (though i have a couple of friends who have had such a combination for years). It was this mood stabilizer or lithium. Those were my options. I took the stabilizer. It made me worse. I saw him again and asked him for something new. He said based on my most recent evaluation I actually seemed like I was doing just fine. He said I was doing really well with regular therapy and let's just use the lithium as a last resort "break glass in emergency" sort of deal. He said he didn't think I needed meds unless it got to that point. It's important to me to note that he was not ever blatantly rude to me. Everything he said was in a very cool, calm, even friendly tone. Everything was so confident and straightforward and he has such a great vibe as a person that I would walk out of his office and not realize until I spoke to my partner or my therapist what had happened. When he told me I was doing so well in my therapy, he made it sound like he was congratulating me; I dare say I was even a little proud of myself. "Yea, I *have* been feeling pretty okay lately" My therapist was pissed. She emailed him explaining that she's worked with me for a year and doesn't think I'm bipolar and gave him all this information. He basically waved her off and completely ignored her. I ended up not getting better and going to an IOP (outside of OHSU). I had to see their psych as part of the program and she looked at my chart. She immediately was like "Do you think you're bipolar?" I said no. she said she didn't either. She gave me an antidepressant. Within 2 weeks I already felt insanely better. The OHSU doctor to this day is technically still my psych, though I haven't visited him since the IOP over a year ago. I've taken the prescription the other doctor gave me and just asked my PCP to keep refilling it, and have changed the doses as needed. It should be mentioned as well that it was within the IOP that I was diagnosed as AuDHD. The symptoms that he was seeing that he would only look at as bipolar were a combination of trauma and cPTSD, ADHD, and autism. Thanks for reading"
"Was told by the front desk here that OHP doesn't cover Adult Autism Evaluations which is absolutely not true, but I knew that when I was on the phone with them. $7,000 cash for one, but they don't accept cash only certain private insurances apparently. Such incompetence!"
"If you’re looking for healthcare professionals that care about you, LOOK FURTHER. I’ve been through many psychology programs, and this one has to be the worst. They are so focused on their money they do not care about patients. I have been taking certain medications for many years previous to signing up with OHSU’s Dr. Huynh. This Dr has been the most unhelpful and rigid healthcare provider I’ve ever worked with. I have been struggling with disability & a workers comp case, while also trying to establish care through OHSU since the pharmacy is close to where I live. This Dr not only refused to help me with my prescriptions, but had her secretary call and tell me there is a new law that says they cannot refill any prescriptions unless they see me every 30 days IN PERSON. My other doctors and I have found no evidence of this law, leading me to believe this may have been an exaggeration, and a method of getting me scheduled. What I didn’t know was that if I didn’t schedule, she was going to discharge me. Which she did as of today. Now I have no help for my prescription plan, because they are so fixated on getting their money that they do not care about the actual human being. So now what happens when my prescription runs out? Any other doctor I’ve been able to call and talk to and explain what’s going on, and they have helped me. All the doctors I’ve asked for help at this place have made me feel like an unwanted burden, because I couldn’t afford to come in for an appointment. Even though, many of my medications have been on my list for many years. Even my primary care physician at OHSU wouldn’t help me refill anything. The bottom line is, THEY DO NOT CARE. So I would recommend trying Pacific University, Cascadia Health, or just about anywhere else."
"Dr. Saraprast.. absolutely awful. He allowed his ego to get the best of him when it came to my health. He discharged me although I said I wanted a referral out."
"I’m really, really sorry the prior woman had the experience she did, but people should know this clinic isn’t a mental health hospital like Unity and it’s just a normal psychiatry/med management clinic now. The appointments I’ve had with 3 different providers have lasted no more than an hour and 15 minutes. This is one of the only competent parts of OHSU that I’ve worked with. Both the residents and faculty are incredibly knowledgeable and when they don’t know something, go to another peer to brainstorm instead of either giving up or bs-ing you. Even the front office and scheduling people are super kind. The first resident I work with sadly moved on to a different location, but was so personable and would not leave me without an answer even one time. Many doctors act in the most disgusting manner when patients may become frustrated or discouraged (because they’re, well, patients), and he was constantly patient and understanding. Dr. D’Souza is a brilliant, brilliant woman and does the same. She’s inquisitive but not in an aggressive or condescending manner, and never makes the appointment just about med management but life skills as well. Not to mention both of them were/are responsive. Dr. Nagarkatti-Gude has such a high level of knowledge and intelligence that’s invaluable to how I was re-diagnosed and treated. I would highly, highly recommend this clinic for medication management and diagnostic purposes."
