"Don't bother bringing a modern diesel here. The owners son, knowing more about diesels than the owner himself, assured me he could diagnose my fuel-related starting issue because he had "friends in the area" who knew about diesels as well. The diagnostic plan he came up with since he didn't have the proper equipment was to replace one injector at a time, and then the high pressure pump if the injectors didn't fix it. That was a possible $5K guessing game and I'm glad I didn't play along because a real mechanic showed right away that the high pressure pump was indeed the culprit, saving me over $2500 in parts and labor."
