Residence Inn by Marriott Portland North

"Unfortunately we must have gotten a room where a family had stayed in for an extended period of time, since the room showed alot of wear and tear and was in need of a full cleaning. We arrived to find every item in the kitchen in the dishwasher together with random baby cups spoons, Tupperware, and covers but upon examination the dishes were greasy and slimy and all had to be hand washed in order to use them for dinner. The cooktop was filthy with layers of cooked on residue on the glass top which is usually sparkling clean in other Residence Inns we have stayed at which are numerous as we are former titanium and platinum members. The walls were splattered with food residue, the dining table bulb needed replacing and the tv cables had been removed by the previous tenant. The bathtub walls also needed a good scrub. There was considerable dust etc under the bed as I was looking for one of the tv controllers that needed to be replaced. The kitchen cupboards had a few bottles of baby food, were dirty and handles were sticky. There was no salt and pepper, wine glasses, pen or notepad. Did have two champagne glasses. When attempting to use the BBQ I was confronted with a filthy rusty grill with rusted out flavour bars and hadn't been cleaned for weeks. The previous RI had a perfectly clean grill that was inspected daily. Didn't help that it smelled heavily of cooking and tortillas and all my clothes left out got impregnated with the smell. If they can't clean the room properly then they should not sell it."

"I never review anything so the fact that I am taking my time to warn people should say it all. The hallways do smell weird but I can get over that. Our room was mostly clean but yes the toaster was dirty and I found someone else’s sock in the room. When we checked into the room the toilet was already plugged up. Not like filled with poop but definitely not flushing. I went to the front desk and they said they would send someone up. No one came so later that evening I made another call. Again no one showed up and we spent all night using the lobby bathroom. The next day I go to office and ask for a plunger and was told one would be sent up . 8 hours pass with no plunger delivered. This time I call down and tear the poor girl at the desk a new one. I had a plunger delivered to my door two hours later. Two days with out a private toilet is just ridiculous. I could have paid $50 and stayed at a hostel if I wanted to share a bathroom. The breakfast! They did have a nice breakfast set up with a nice selection of foods. They advertise their breakfast is until 9:30 but both mornings the breakfast was picked up by 9:20. And the lady who does the breakfast is extremely rude, didn’t say a word, just shot angry glances at anyone who was trying to get food. I always choose hotels based on the fact I get breakfast in the morning so showing up at 9:20 and having nearly everything unavailable was annoying. It was clear to me she wanted to be out of there by ten so starts picking up at 9ish to make that possible. She even shut off the juice machine before everyone was done eating. Yes this place is close to the airport, but with nearly zero food options and an unprofessional staff who could careless ; I’d much rather not give these people my money and stay somewhere else."

"Had a reservation at the courtyard and they moved me over to the residence and without even asking. My room smells horrible and the hotel is tired to say the least. There’s also a handicap shower seat in the hallway with trash cans along the hallway I don’t know if they have enough staff to keep the hotel clean, I only wish I could cancel but it’s too late to try to find another hotel. Worst Marriott experience today."

"Rooms were nice and clean. Service was nice and attentive. Had a good free breakfast. Was in a pretty private, secluded area."

"The location, room and staff was amazing. The only reason its not a 5 is the wifi, tough to stream, so in the evenings we were not able to enjoy a wing down of some streaming. However the location is so wonderful, you can even walk across the street to the courtyard and sit near the river, with a bar there. We did this a couple times, which i might argue was better then streaming some you tube."
