About the Business

Water Canyon Campground

Water Canyon Campground is a hidden gem nestled in a canyon in California, United States. This campground offers stunning views of the surrounding islands, access to amazing hiking trails, and a beautiful white sand beach nearby. Located 40 nautical miles from the Channel Islands National Park visitor center in Ventura, Santa Rosa Island is a haven for nature lovers.

Santa Rosa Island is the second largest island in California, boasting a diverse array of plant and animal species, including some found nowhere else on earth. The island is rich in history, with archeological sites dating back to the Chumash Native Americans and remnants of past occupations by European explorers, missionaries, ranchers, and the US military.

At Water Canyon Campground, primitive camping is available with basic amenities provided. The campground is a short hike from the pier and the nearby Water Canyon Beach. Visitors can explore the island's unique landscape, from high mountains and canyons to rolling hills and coastal wetlands.

For outdoor enthusiasts, there are plenty of hiking opportunities on the island, ranging from flat routes to rugged mountain paths. While swimming and water activities are limited due to strong winds, the island offers excellent beach walking on its white sand beaches.

To arrange transportation to Santa Rosa Island, visitors can contact Island Packers for boat transportation or Channel Islands Aviation for air transportation. For more information on recreational activities in the park, visit the National Park Service website.

Experience the beauty and tranquility of Santa Rosa Island at Water Canyon Campground, where nature and history come together to create an unforgettable camping experience.

"It's the best campground among five islands of Channel Islands National, there are shelters, water and flash restrooms, also Water Canyon Beach is nearby."

"Very beautiful campground! Pretty views, areas are spaced out from each other and there are wind shields to keep the strong winds at bay. There are a lot of foxes and they will come up to you, they have no fear!"

"The Santa Rosa Campground is located in the Channel Islands National Park. The island and the campground has to be one of the most beautiful sites for a National Park. The campround offers 15 campsites that are nicely separated from each other. A fair amount of planning and reservations are required to stay overnight. The island itself has some of the most beautiful beaches and bright white sand dunes on the beaches. There is great hiking and swimming available all along it's coastline. This campground offers a bathroom with flushing toilets and hot water to wash dishes and stay clean. This outing was a most memorable experience."

"Beautiful campground on Santa Rosa island. It's tucked away in a canyon and has wind shelters, water, flush toilets and picnic tables. It's about a 45 minute walk from the ferry landing and it has a few uneven parts and one uphill that can be challenging, but it's only 100 yards. Highly recommend for your Channel Islands camping and it's a great jumping off point for many trails such as cherry canyon, lobo canyon, Torrey's pines or water canyon beach. There's only 15 sites too so it never feels crowded."
