"This review is definitely long overdue. This is going to be a long one so get your coffee and bagel and learn from my experience... I just want to say right out of the gate that Dr. Kevin Downing is a wonderful and amazing psychologist and counselor. A man of God that has a gentle spirit and a heart of wisdom and maturity. My wife and I (we are currently separated and soon to be divorced) came to see him a few years back. His methods are very effective IF AND ONLY IF you are honest, want to be there, take ownership of your marriage, be accountable, and level up and own your mistakes and shortcomings. I unfortunately did not do that during our sessions. Plainly speaking, I was selfish, narcissistic, and downright walking in sin. I was not living according to the Spirit as Apostle Paul tells us. My affair caused the collapse of my marriage and it's something I have to live with for the rest of my life. My wife left and I don't blame her. She did everything in her power to be the best wife for years. But I blew it. While I am not defined by my mistakes, nor will I live in shame for the rest of my life, I am forever regretful and will have a scar that will never fully heal. At the end of the day, an affair is simply not worth it. It's not. Paul says the pleasures of sin only last for a season. There's always a price to pay later. Sure sin feels good in the moment but like the Prodigal Son, that chicken will come home to roost and you will be broken and desolate in the end. Hidden underneath the sin is the price and cost that we do not see. Not until it's too late. I will say that God can restore and heal anyone and any marriage. For us unfortunately it was too late. Too much betrayal and damage had been done on my end. You could have the greatest counselor and encourager in the world from Jordan Peterson to Bedros Keuilian or Dr Downing and IT WILL DO YOU NO GOOD if you're not 100% open and honest about your addictions, insecurities, and hidden sins. God cannot and will not bless a man living a double life with hidden sin and deception. It's been a harrowing and painful last two years. But I have been refined by fire. God has "leveled me up" to new beginnings, new opportunities, new people and ultimately as a new man. I am grateful to Dr Downing and his patience, love, gentleness and support he gives to his clients. I highly recommend seeing him if you need help. But you must come open and honest. Me losing my marriage in the end was a good thing in the sense that it brought me to utter brokenness and affliction. It's in those seasons where we grow and mature the most. Psalm 119:71. Unfortunately some men double down on their mistakes and get deeper in their sin and vices. I chose to seek God with all my heart, soul, mind and strength. Best decision I ever made.
