"I’ve been an intern at MFPI for about 3 months for the summer. Although short, my time there was an eye opening experience. Paul is an amazing mentor that really cares about you and your personal growth. One part of my internship was being assigned tasks and after you have finished Paul gives critical feedback. Everything Paul does is for your best interests towards your growth at whatever stage you are in. Another part of my internship was shadowing. I was granted permission from the client to sit in and shadow during sessions. It was a helpful experience to observe a real-life therapy session. After the session Paul debriefed with me on important aspects pertaining to the client/session. I experienced a lot of hands on training at MFPI and learned many valuable skills. I have a better understanding of therapy topics/methods and a better understanding of my class lectures/materials. I’m making connections from what I learn at MFPI and using them to excel. More importantly, shadowing (and debriefing after) sessions gave me an insight on therapists and their practices."

"I attended a training with Moving Forward Psychological Institute as a new MSW graduate. Paul taught me how to engage with monolingual and limited English speaking Vietnamese clients. First and foremost, how taught me how to maintain hierarchical respect and a professional relationship with my clients through the artful use of the Vietnamese language. He shared insight on how the different waves of Vietnamese refugees/immigrants vary in identities, value systems, and cultural practices based of the region of origin, history of colonization, socioeconomic class, religion, etc.. Even as a Vietnamese-American, I was not aware of the cross-cultural identities that make each client unique. I am much more culturally competent and equipped to work with monolingual and limited English speaking Vietnamese clients because Paul gave me the basic tools to connect, build rapport, and empower my clients through their healing process. "I attended the Mental Health First Aid training and it was very helpful in improving and teaching me new clinical social work skills. It is especially helpful that the training has a simulation component that allows you the opportunity to practice the skills and is recorded so you can evaluate yourself.
