"Michelle did a great job of scheduling. She even called me back when we were cut off. Very professional and thorough."

"I had a follow up appointment here with Marilynn Klemstein following a trip to the ER a week prior, and I have never felt more invalidated about my medical concerns in my life. I showed up to the appointment with extreme pain (that had worsened since my ER trip), and other concerning symptoms like losing 40lbs within a few months unintentionally due to pain and vomiting, and was instead told that I need to see a psychiatrist. She completely disregarded some of my concerns and told me to just take Tylenol. She also told me that my pain was not severe enough to warrant an ER trip, which was very invalidating because I have been crippled in pain at times unable to move, questioning if I need to call an ambulance. She said “if you can get up on the exam table, and stand up from the chair, you do not need to go to the ER.” In addition to this, because I have a history of mental illness, she focused the entire appointment around that, despite the fact that I am extremely stable mentally, and am already receiving mental health support as needed. I really just want to get this pain under control so I can eat again, work again, finish my college degree, and live my life, but Marilynn degraded me as a person and has hurt me deeply. She made me sign a “no harm consent” which was completely uncalled for, considering I am mentally stable. She claims this was because I was tearful and crying during the appointment, but crying is normal, and a perfectly appropriate and valid human reaction to somebody disregarding your concerns, especially when they are supposed to be the person to help you, and you are in horrendous pain and scared for your health. Empathy is a crucial skill that all medical professionals MUST have, and I feel that Marilynn fell short in this category. I would like to point out, however, that the rest of the staff that I interacted with during my appointment were extremely kind and helpful. I would recommend this doctor’s office to people, but I would NOT recommend Marilynn if you are looking for medical advice AND have a history of mental illness. She likely will not see you as a person, but merely as a diagnosis. Save yourself the heartache and tears and set up an appointment with someone else who will care for you how you deserve. Even if there was nothing more she could have done for me, she could have at LEAST had some empathy. Mental health is just as important as physical health and although they are connected, just because someone is in physical pain does not automatically mean that it is being caused by mental illness. I hope Marilynn can learn this and treat future mental illness warriors with a lot more respect."
