"I will think twice before using this surgery center again. 'I feel they cared more about their policies than what made sense for me the patient. I was having a local anesthesia. No general anesthesia. Yet, they wanted to put an IV in my veins. I apparently caused a problem by saying 'no.' I didn't want or need one. I wasn't going to have any additional medication. Yet 15 minutes later, I was informed that if I did not let them put an IV in my arm, they were going to cancel my surgery. So, I had to undergo needless pain while they found a vein and stuck a needle in it. The prep person came in again and handed me pills I was to take. It wasn't until I asked what they were, and why I was being given them that I was given an explanation. To me, when a nurse brings you meds, the names and explanations for them ought to be given up front...without the patient having to play multiple questions. Lastly, I was going to be awake for an hour while they did the procedure. A nurse named Cindy started to set up a strap for my body. I told her 'no.' twice, that I did not want to be strapped down. She said 'too late' to which I had to raise my voice and say we should cancel the surgery. Only then, did he back off. I may sound like a difficult patient and perhaps I am. I am in my late 60's, have had lots of surgery, and know myself well. The actual surgery went off without a hitch. But I had to fight these things that I was incredibly uncomfortable with. I do want to thank one nurse named Clawdia (sp?) who 'got' me and related to me as a person. She was comforting in the OR and helped me with my post-op."

To my favorite Dr. Harkey thank you for being my provider. I would never be able to go through this without your exceptional care. You are the best !!!
